Surveyor recommendations?
Hello, I am considering purchasing a (non Cape Dory) in Gloucester, MA and was hoping there was someone who could recommend a reputable surveyor or two in the Cape Ann area. (I guess that when I say "considering" I am probably understating the case somewhat but I don't want to make myself ...

Standing rigging for porch railing
Here's a quasi-sailboat question: I am looking into options for a porch railing or my home and wanted to know if anyone had any ideas, suggestions, etc. on using stainless steel sailboat wire rigging as horizontal elements of a porch railing. I think I want something that is a little cleaner than tr...

Not in the dooghouse
I figure I am in pretty good shape since I picked up fresh Maine farm stand corn and string beans and raspberries for dinner.
(Of course, we're having a late dinner because Wednesday night is race night for me (aboard a Ranger 28).)
I love summer.

BBQ conversion
Hi, I have a West Marine 180ss BBQ grill I want to convert from the little propane bottle to the big Blue Rhino-type gas (is that LPG?) It is for home use (on a deck with little space...I plan to rail mount the grill). The question is: what parts do I need to convert from little Coleman-style propan...

Fog season
Ron, I sailed out of Portland for 5 years and am now up in Freeport. Fog season seems to arrive more often later in the summer but somehow it seems to arrive whenever I go on a lengthy cruise. When I got my first sailboat (a 27' Pearson Renegade) I sailed up from Kittery on my first ever trip. I was...

Easy Off
Thanks for the advice everyone. It looks like Easy Off is the way to go. If that doesn't do it, I will resort to wet sanding.

Typhoon transom/naming assistance
Hello everyone, I just visited my Typhoon prior to launching next weekend (or next next weekend) and I completely forgot to take measurements of the transom for a new name (Cupcake). The current name (Serenity) is painted on so I will be happy to hear any advice for removing that from the transom. (...

wet wet wet
I had a similar experience to Lang's. Yesterday I took the Typhoon out in a good breeze to see how far it would heel before I got into trouble. I had the toe rail in the water and then I kind of leaned way over the high side to check out the bottom of the keel (it looked good, nice and clean). Then ...

flattened deck
Tom, it sounds too good to be true, but am I correct that you had the deformed deck before you jacked the cabin roof from the inside. And afterwards you had cured the chainplate deformation? I'm going to give the procedure a try this winter (hate that word...) and was wondering if I should try to ge...
