Re: The right tender

I have a Shellback that I built. At nearly twelve feet she look a little large behind my 25 but towed great. I've thought about the similar Nutshell to be able to bring onboard our larger boat. the Shelback does very well with two adults and two children for rowing. Jeff Hi Jeff, I don't suppose yo...

Re: Options for Removing Perkins 4108 from Cape Dory 36

Thanks, Rich, for the picture. Since Jeff got several great replies already about how to approach removing his engine, I'll stray just a bit more from the original post to say that's an interesting approach to the engine foundations. What did they use to for the beds? I can see they're tabbed to the...

Re: Options for Removing Perkins 4108 from Cape Dory 36

Rich,

Not to hijack the thread, but did the yard remove the steel engine bed and build those foundations, or are the foundations original?

2018 Golden Globe Race

Cruising the internet this morning, I came upon the Golden Globe Race site and noticed that the Cape Dory 36 is on the "approved" list of entries. I thought maybe some of you here would be interested in checking out the site and some of the videos published about the race by McIntyre Adven...

Re: Replacing standing rigging

This probably counts as a stupid question, but can I replace my standing rigging a few stays at a time, with the mast up? It seems a little precarious to climb the mast and remove any of the upper or lower shrouds while up there. I was trying to think it through, and it reminds me of the riddles of...

Re: Sail Prices

Jim and David, It appears that both of you have gone with the lower cut Yankee. Do both of yours still come back to the mast, not past the mast? and just have a lower foot which adds a bit more sail area? David that is exactly what the sail maker said about replacing the UV material on an existing ...

Re: Sail Prices

A couple points: Generally it's easier to add a UV cover to a sail under construction since things like the clew are usually pressed through the whole assembly - sailcloth and UV material. Trying to sew around a pressed-in ring and other hardware can be a pain. Factor into the cost of replacing the ...
