Re: New CD36 owners need orientation
Welcome! For a full-service mechanic, I would contact Dan Crete at Saltworks Marine in Marion. He helped me maintain my Cape Dory and he is an expert, especially when it comes to diesels. His prices are competitive. He is mobile, so would likely travel to Fall River if that is what you are looking f...

Re: CD 27 "Holding Tank" Capacity?
What year is your CD? Assuming you are referring to the glassed in tank that occupies the space under the engine, I believe it has a 15 gallon capacity. Assuming yours doesn't leak and operates as it should, there is nothing wrong with the design nor any reason to modify it. I had this arrangement a...

John, I am sure its possible, but honestly with the effort required you are better finding one with the tiller from the factory.

1983 Cape Dory 27 For Sale
Hello, After several amazing years with my 27 I am listing her for sale as I have moved onto a larger boat. 1983 CD 27 Hull #269, this is one of the last 27's built and is in great, sail-away condition. Rare wheel steering, upgraded Westerbeke diesel, and many more upgrades. Ted https://www.yachtwor...

Re: CD 25 vs. CD 27
I can say that the 27 certainly doesn't feel like too much to handle. I have the inboard diesel and wheel and am amazed at how responsive it is to the rudder, with an impressive turning radius. I single-hand all the time (definitely helpful to have self-tailing winches). I find that coming to dock s...

Re: Oil/Trans Fluid Change Pump recommendation?
I have had this for many years and it has always worked perfectly. Not having a built-in version never bothered me. Plus you dont need to look for a waste oil container. https://www.westmarine.com/buy/west-marine--manual-oil-changer-2-9-quart--11097714?cm_sp=Onsite-Recs-_-DY-_-PDP Its a little small...

Re: 1 GM leaking water
I assume your exhaust elbow has a hose connected to it to introduce raw water for cooling? If yes, confirm if this has a siphon break and if yes, if it is leaking. Mine has one and leaked at one point.

Re: Barrington to Marion
Great work Chris! I am moored in Marion harbor as well, I will look for your boat next time I am down. Fantastic cruising is now within reach, as well as top notch service yards should you need it --- I highly suggest checking out the east side of buzzards bay, lots of great bays to explore with san...

Re: Barrington to Marion
I hear you on the frustration, but it sounds like you are making smart choices and trusting your gut on what you feel comfortable with. That always pays off. If you do go the sea route, motoring the whole way with sails up or down is fine--after all, you're trying to "get there". I've usua...
