Re: Propellors yet again..
Thanks All.
Looking at everyone's opinions, almost everyone uses a 3 blade prop and maybe worth the change. I will ask around for an "equivalent" 3 blade prop that can replace the 2 blade 14 LH 14 on a 23 HP @ 2500 rpm, without stressing the engine.

Re: Propellors yet again..
Thanks everyone. Paul on my CD if I do mark the shaft for alignment, I can move the flywheel from the galley area very easily. ( I have a volvo, so flywheel is very accessible from the galley area) But again, I really wanted to know if there is a possibility of better motion in reverse with 3 blade ...

Propellors yet again..
Hello Folks, I have a 14 LH 14 twin blade non folding propeller. I have a volvo MD11C, 23 hp engine. And I have a Cape Dory 33. SO, my questions are 1) Will a 3 blade prop work better, specifically for reverse. 2) Will inherently a 3 blade prop be a better choice, especially since the twin blade one...

Hi,
I have sucessfully used
http://www.ebay.com/itm/USR-WIFI232-602 ... SwPe1UBsYH
to interface nmea0183 ( which is essentially same as rs232) to wifi, and have all the data on my mobile device.

Re: Refit Ideas for Instruments
Thanks everyone for all the ideas, I finally managed to get some decent discount on electronics. I managed to route the NMEA0183 from the radio ( GX2200) to a Garmin 44dv, and also managed to route the NMEA0183 from the radio to a RS232-wifi module. This enables me to have AIS/GPS in the cockpit, as...

Re: Refit Ideas for Instruments
Klem — I agree with you that a basic c/p would be sufficient here in channel islands. I do have a tablet I have downloaded the app iSailor and downloaded the US West Coast charts for $5. I will give this a try the next time I go sailing. Tom — You have made a very interesting point of radar. Ken — T...

Re: Refit Ideas for Instruments
Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply. Klem - I plan on coastal cruising in channel islands/santa barbara. Yes there is occasional fog in the late afternoon hours. The Datamarine depth sounder that I have works (for now at least), but I do have a through hull on the other side which has a tra...

Refit Ideas for Instruments
Hello Folks, I have now sailed a few times on my CD33. I have been lucky enough to take her out couple times a month since November One of the few things that I think need replacing are old aging systems of data-marine. The depth finder works, the log/speed indicator doesnt work and the wind instrum...

Re: CD33 rudder drip underway
Hi Jim,
Use just water and toothbrush. Was reluctant to use anything else. Please did suggest biodegradable rust removers, but didnt have to use them.
Thanks
Amit

Re: CD33 rudder drip underway
Hi Folks,
Alls well. Just a little cleaning solved the problem. The stain was superficial. Shaft had no pitting. Cutlass was changed couple months ago.
Survey went well overall. Soon enough should be able to complete the sale and sail.
Thanks for all the comments and advice.

Re: CD33 rudder drip underway
Thanks Zeida, Interestingly the shaft and cutlass etc were replaced in 2011, the shaft looks okay from the outside. ( underwater ) see attached pic, and the bearing feels okay as well.

Re: CD33 rudder drip underway
Thanks folks. The engine is Volvo 24 HP. The prop shaft seems to have rust/pitting. Here are the pics of rudder stuffing box, prop shaft and quadrant.
Any suggestions appreciated.
