Battery boost starter.
Greetings all, Anyone carry one of those battery boost devices on board. In theory you could run down your battery banks and then start your engine if you had one of these on board. I see them available for less than $100. Seen demos of lithium batteries catching fire. But checking on google says th...

Re: CD27- Lewmar bronze ST winches
I installed the Lewmar 16 STs as in the previous post. Very pretty initially but the bronze discolors quickly. I would go with the chrome if I could do it again. Constant polishing of the bronze if you want bling. Did install easily on the original pedestals after drilling new holes.

Re: Lewmar 7 winches & Spartan bronze winch stand assemblie
Just curious. Installed Lewmar 16 STs on my 27 last season on the bronze pedistals. What did you install your new winches on?

Re: CD27- Lewmar bronze ST winches
If you are not in a hurry, I got my ST winches from West marine on a 2 for one sale. Both winches for $800. They were back ordered and had to wait 2 months.

Re: Does the cape Dory 28 have a bobstay?
There is an early 28 at the yard where I have my boat. I think it is a '76. It has a cast bowsprit with an angle of the casting extending downward. No bobstay and it looks to be original equipment.

Freds 27, Narragansett Bay in February
Greetings all,
Went for a sail in Fred Muller's CD 27. Very nice sunny 50 degree day with nice breezy upper Narragansett Bay. Fred keeps his boat in all year and was kind enough to take me for a sail. Fun in February.

AT
i have a CD 27 but sail mostly in Narragansett Bay and Block Island sound. Congratulations on your trip. Someday I'd like to go on a similar adventure.
Keep us updated on your repairs. I will probably be doing the same someday.
thanks

Re: Is Face Book Killing the Forum?
Hi,
I check for new posts nearly every day. I don't post unless there is something I consider worthwhile. I could tell you about the raw water pump routine maintenance that is on my bench right now but I think you have all heard it before.

Re: Oil leak YSM8
Thanks, Jim, for finding this. I didn't see it in my pre post search.
Maybe I'll start with gently tightening every bolt I can reach. Using a bright light and a mirror.
Won't be this week with the temp. in the teens.

Oil leak YSM8
Greetings, My YSM 8 has a small oil leak. Starts and runs fine, but for approx. every 10 hrs. of operation I lose about 2 oz. of oil. It is not enough to show on the dipstick but makes a mess under the engine. I now run with an oil absorbent pad placed to catch the oil and keep it out of the bilge. ...

Re: Slip or mooring fees
Here in RI, slips go for 80 to 100 per foot and may be higher in Newport. I'm frugal, I pay $ 250 a season to the town for a mooring permit. I own the mooring tackle and probably average $ 200 a season to have it serviced. I keep an inflatable at a nearby dock for another $ 50.
