Pintle Gudgeon Play on CD30?

On my way down to the Carribean I noticed play at the bottom of the rudder. Sarah was taken out of the water in St. Croix and I was able to measure about 1/16inch play in the pintle/gudgeon system. Meaning 1/32inch on each side of the pintle. The Cape Dory owners manual indicates that there should b...

Re: Windvane Installation on Cape Dory 30

Just an update to the Norvane post... previously (6 months ago) I had difficulty getting the windvane to operate. After working to balance the boat with sail trim and getting down the windvane setup procedure, I would have to say that it was the best item I installed before our cruise to the Virgin ...

Re: Windvane Installation on Cape Dory 30

So, we haven't been using the windvane as much as I'd like. A lot of downwind sailing with some following seas. We did give it a good run from Chincoteague, VA to the Chesapeake and it worked well. Had to take the wheel every 10 minutes or so and put the boat back on the right heading. Need to make ...

Cape Dory 30 overhead view through the East River NYC

On our voyage south to the Bahamas we took out CD 30 through the East River to Staten Island. It was more motoring than we ever like to do, but a pretty unique experience. A friend of ours came out to see us through and took some pics. You don't usually get to see your boat from this view! http://2....

Re: Windvane Installation on Cape Dory 30

I think the dimensions I gave from the top of the transom to the water was something like 33inches, they recommended Norvane model #18. I measured it while the boat was in the water during the winter, so it was not loaded for summer cruising and now the rudder sits lower than I expected in the water...

Living aboard Cape Dory 30

Hi Everyone, We are happy to have found the CDSOA. We have been living aboard S/V Sarah (1980 Cape Dory Cutter Hull 181) together for a year now and are planning to cruise to the Bahamas next month. We love to see so many CD owners as enthralled as we are! Here are some photos from sailing around Bo...

I spent hours in the anchor locker replacing the rusted out backing plate and couldn't wait to be done with it. I put down a thick layer of left...
