Re: Correct Prop Pitch?

Disclaimer: I'm not an expert ... "Does anyone know the correct prop pitch for the 1GM-25D combination?" ... most small marine diesels rev to about 3,000 rpm or even a little higher, 3,500 is not uncommon. Do you have a tach ? If yes, put engine in neutral and rev full throttle briefly jus...

Re: Anyone added a bowsprit on a CD27?

Mathias ... That's a great looking bow sprit. Nice job. On my boat Jerezana (CD 27) I have almost exclusively been flying a working jib (ie about 100%) for about 5 years now that trims from the factory jib tracs that are on the coach roof. Quantum Bristol made it for me. (I replaced original 3/4&quo...

Re: Cape Dory 27 Mast Compression Plate

This is an old thread ... here are a few pix from inside ... . In the first shot you can just make out the 1" through deck hole which I coated with white silicone. There is a deck side cable clam at the top of that drilling. I'll have to take a shot and post. The gland was on the boat when I bo...

Re: Yanmar 1GM

Can you get to 3600 rpm in neutral ? If yes I'd guess you just have a prop pitch problem because, yes, you should be pitched to be able to get up to redline (or nearly anyway) ... and being grossly over pitched will also cause some smoking and deposits on your transom as well as premature clogging o...

Prop walk and the Key Bridge

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEzDh4RwpaM Interesting take on the Key Bridge disaster: that the pilot threw the ship into full astern (with not enough stopping distance to the bridge) and threw the bow to starboard (stern to port) when a better strategy might have been to go full ahead/hard to por...
