Typhoon for Sale
I'm selling my beloved Typhoon. It's a 1977 and is in very excellent condition. When I bought it two years ago I immediately pulled all the thru deck hardware and over-sized the holes, epoxied them closed and re-drilled them to correct size. Absolutely no water in the deck. Deck and cockpit repainte...

Re: Does this potential project have any merit
Jeff, I would love to have the DS version but not many of them were made, as you know. And I'm in the midwest and Ty's, either version, are not as prevalent as they are on the east coast. Plus, I would have to sell my weekender and that is always a bit of a hassle. Long ago I looked at the possibly ...

Does this potential project have any merit
I love my Ty. Probably the one thing I don't like about it is the shallow cockpit. This is one of the nice things about the daysailer version - a deeper cockpit, more leg room even though not self bailing. I'm thinking about making the seats higher by building a second seat level above the existing ...

Re: My Ty's Winter Blanket
I actually had mice living in the mast - and they chewed through the jib halyard that I normally use to hoist the mast - not fun trying to re-thread an internal halyard! I tape (use electrical tape) a plastic bag over the open end instead of stuffing a rag in it. I also use poly pipe hoops at 16 in...

Always take my spreaders off before covering.casampson wrote:Does anyone make a practice of taking their spreaders off for the winter? A while ago, heavy snowfall bent one of the spreaders on my Goldeneye. I've been taking them off ever since. Just wondering if others do the same.

Re: My Ty's Winter Blanket
Hey, good luck with the restoration of the Catalina 27, Jim. As we speak, our next door neighbors are taking their Cat 27 from here in Nova Scotia down to the Bahamas. They got delayed with tranny failure and are only now in New Jersey, but the weather is cooperating and they're now making good sou...

Re: Loose Footed or Bolt rope Main-Preference Question
Skeep, I prefer a bolt rope in the foot of the sail. I had a sail built for my Ty and had to specify that. I also specified sail slides in the foot. For me it is just more a matter of personal preference. The only practical issue that I can think of is that there may be a little more wear on the sai...

Always a good idea.tjr818 wrote:They look all tucked in and ready for winter. However, put a rag in the butt end of that mast or you will have birds living in there all winter long. Don't ask me how I know

Gin Pole for Typhoon Mast
I'm attempting to rig a gin pole set up to lower (and, in spring, raise) my mast. I'm considering using my trailer winch in its place on the trailer. It's position on the trailer is lower than the deck of the Ty. I'm thinking of running the line connected to the gin pole through the opening in the s...

Re: Typhoon outboard motor opinions and thoughts
I have a Mariner 4 hp 2 stroke long shaft engine on my Ty that came with the boat. I think it's probably about the perfect size. It weighs about 53 lbs. That weight doesn't seem to make the boat squat noticeably. Has enough power to push through heavier headwinds. Don't know about currents as I'm on...

Re: Launched today!
I had the same problem with posting some pictures from my computer that were taken with my Galaxy S5 phone. If I take the picture with the shudder button on the left the pics come out upside down when posted. With the button on the right they are right side up. Didn't think it should work that way b...

Re: Raising My Typhoon on My Trailer
I was able to get (schedule) the launch of the Ty with the marina so that the boat could lay in the slings overnight starting about 6 PM in the evening with launch the next morning at about 9 AM. It was warm so my epoxy repair had plenty of time to cure. I still want to try to raise the boat on the ...

Raising My Typhoon on My Trailer
Last year at launch I noted some dings in the bottom of my keel that I would like to fill. I have the marina travel lift launch my boat. Attached are pictures of my Ty on its trailer. I want to move the bow roller out so that I can lift the boat up in the back with a jack under the keel (about 18 in...
