Re: Re-Core Cockpit Sole
Thanks for the input Jeff, I'm planning on exactly what you recommended! I've sailed Benediction for about 4 years with the wheel. I don't mind it so much for daysailing but since I've been out cruising for almost a year now and most of my passages are 12+ hours or multiple days, I don't really do a...

Re: Replacing old Merriman steering pedestal on CD31
I was scanning through the forums and noticed this post. I have just removed the Edson pedestal from my CD30 and do not plan to put it back on the boat as I am converting to a tiller. If you would be interested, I'd be willing to sell it to another Cape Dory owner for a discounted price although I d...

Re: Re-Core Cockpit Sole
Sorry that I am resurrecting this old thread but I am in the midst of nearly the same project on my CD30, Benediction. I was hoping to get a little advice while referring to Jeff's great picture that he posted on 4/25/16 which includes all of the steering underbody. In my case, I am not planning to ...

Re: Anchor roller removal
After doing a bit of searching in old threads, I think that I have decided to just cut out the old roller and buy a prefabricated one that I can bolt on to the bowsprit (with a bit of modification so that it won't interfere with the forestay chainplate and forestay pin.

Re: Anchor roller removal
I was hoping to get it out so that I can replace the anchor roller which has almost no material left in the center, allowing the chain to grind against the pin. Other solutions would be to cut the roller off and replace it with a split roller on the pin or I could buy a whole new roller assembly and...

Anchor roller removal
I have an '85 Cape Dory 30C and I'm trying to replace the anchor roller that is in the bowsprit. I removed the teak bung on the starboard side of the bowsprit and was expecting to find a bolt that I could remove and then just replace the roller. Unfortunately, instead of a bolt head I found what loo...

Re: Deck hardware and headliner
Thanks Tim! I took a look at your thread and I like the way you managed the headliner issue. I ended up cutting out little squares in the headliner in order to put the backing plates against the coach roof deck. I wanted to use backing plates instead of just fender washers because of the higher load...

Deck hardware and headliner
I hope this isn't a duplicate post because I think I lost it the first time, if so I apologize... Does anyone, preferably with experience removing the headliner or removing/rebedding winches on the coach roof, know if there is originally any sort of spacer/filler between the headliner and the coach ...

Re: Split Teak Coaming
Thanks Adam! I bought some 3/16" rods from McMaster Carr but didn't have them when I was down at the boat last weekend and, as I was looking at my coamings, I was nervous that I wouldn't be able to drill the holes slightly larger. Other than filling the actual crack with epoxy as well, do you h...

Re: Split Teak Coaming
Adam,
What diameter rod did you end up using? I know you said that you drilled 5/16" holes but were the rods the exact diameter or did you use something a little smaller to allow the epoxy to fill in around it. I'm asking because I am about to do the same thing...

Re: Re-Core Cockpit Sole
Jeff, I just wanted to say that it looks like you did a really nice job on this project and thanks for posting all of these pictures. This is something that I am planning to do as well on Benediction - probably when I pull the boat out next fall - at the same time that I remove the pedestal and conv...

Re: CD 36 Staysail boom
Thanks for the information and rapid response, I really appreciate it! I will definitely talk to my sailmaker before I position everything to get their opinion on location of a fixed block since I am planning to have at least a new main and staysail cut in the near future. May main reason for wantin...

Re: CD 36 Staysail boom
I removed my staysail boom though that is probably not much help to you as I have a longer bowsprit and moved the tack of the staysail forward. Nonetheless, there are all kinds of advantages to removing the boom, most of which Russell covered. My leads will be positioned outboard of the cabin top, ...

Re: SV Clover
Hi Mike and Tiffany,
Congrats on your new purchase!
I can't really say welcome since I just joined the ranks of Cape Dory ownership myself, also with the purchase of a CD 30C. In any case, I look forward to hearing how the various projects go on your refit.

Re: Staysail Boom
Yes, I saw the above post and that is where I understood that some people have advocated for getting rid of the staysail boom (at lease on some of the larger Cape Dorys). What I am looking for is a bit more detail on exactly how they did it, hardware wise, whether in pictures or by description. I ha...
