That would not be so funny if it was not the absolute truth. Some might say that is where the term cussing like a sailor originated from, and it makes complete sense to me.Jim Davis wrote:

Re: Cabin sole water damage CD27
I don't think it is from high water for the most part. The lines indicate wicking and not stains from a constant level. This can easily be caused by a small leak(s) wicking through the wood, especially the sole where it butts up to the cabinets. Cape Dory did have a flaw in their builds as they woul...

Re: Advice to younger self....
When my wife bought me a GoPro for Christmas a couple of years ago, I really didn't have a good use for it... Until: I have her video me measuring everything. I can't tell you how many times I have used that video. Digital pictures were great, but they never told the whole story, so measuring and vi...

Re: Is there ethanol in diesel?
There is no ethanol in diesel and never will and only because the findings on the NOX and DEF would increase the emissions, not help them. The government does not care that it would not only ruin the engines naturally, but also wreak all kinds of biological havoc on the ULSD fuel we now have to cont...

Re: Proper direction of engine air cowl vent on Cape Dory 25
On our 300 CD, I added a blower that runs when the engine is running or when using the oven/stove with the gas on to keep the bilges clear. Worked so well, it is on the list to install on our Island Packet as well. With a potentiometer (speed control) and 12 volt timer ($10 on ebay) block off the in...

Re: Membership card and decal received!
What about getting a quote on getting them actually cast in bronze. Can take a poll before hand and see what we would all be willing to pay and how many to see if it is worth the order. Then keep a few for the ships store. I don't know. Good Idea or Bad Idea? Even though we are relatively short time...

Re: Unable to log on from Internet Explorer
Turned on developer tools on IE. The issues on my side is the php was unable to write to a cookie that it expected to write to for session state. Clearing the internet Cache solved the issue. Go to Internet Options (The Gear at the top right). Pop up, middle of the page, there is a 'Delete' Button. ...

Re: Repowering with Electric
My boat broker states that anyone contemplating this on a beautiful boat like the Cape Dory's should have their head examined. He also will not take the listing as they stay on the market a long time before finding the "right buyer" and the one he listed sold for far less than average. I a...

Re: Repowering with Electric
So, listening to the arguments for repowering a < 30' sailboat with electric and everything that goes into that, it boggles my mind why not just leave the diesel alone and add a Torqeedo http://torqeedoelectricoutboard.com/torqeedo-outboards/ to the transom. Resale Value. The boat remains the same, ...

Re: Split Teak Coaming
Helped a friend with a little Cheoy Lee Frisco Flyer he is trying to restore on the cheap. The key to buying teak is shopping and not being afraid to build your board up with strips, glue and clamps from smaller pieces. Hardest part, as mentioned, is removing the old to install the new. $200 in wood...

Re: Switch to Fit the Original Cape Dory AC Panels
You can switch out the separate switch/breaker for the common combo breaker switches and put pilot lights in the other hole. It is also a good time to check the wiring. On our 86, they used solid core copper and it was pretty questionable with a lot of heat loss.

Re: Tiller versus wheel
Why debate it? Like the boat itself, it is a personal choice. It was one think I liked about the old Beneteau Evasion as it had a wheel in the house and a tiller aft. You could go either way.

Re: 1981 CD 25 - Seacock replacement - Looking for some advi
I can't picture your exact setup, but I can say you do not want to back against a liner. I would cut out enough liner to get to the hull and leave enough room around the seacock to be able to pry out the starboard if you ever have to re-bed.

Re: Blocks on cabin
Steve, I believe you are right on all accounts. I would still experiment with it for a small jib as others have removed the self-tending club and still used the blocks for sheets with varied success.
