Re: Typhoon Senior question
There's no indication anywhere on the unit what model it is. Confirmed it's made by Lewmar. I think you just have to order one that's the correct dimensions. Here's a photo: https://edgeis.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/hatch.jpg This is pretty close, I think you want the "30" size: https:...

Re: Typhoon Senior question
Previous owner of mine replaced this I believe. When I get a minute I'll go out and see if I can determine what exact model it is, maybe even a part number. Think it's a Lewmar.

Re: CD 25 question regarding outboard - underway and moored
My TySenior has a motor well. First year I pulled the outboard out on the mooring and kept it down below but the next year decided that wasn't worth the hassle, so have let the motor sit in the water at the mooring. I pull it out once or twice a season and scrub the growth off. I'm sure it adds drag...

Re: dockline length
Thanks, sounds like two vote for longer lines. You guys must be good at those Flemish coils! That's the only downside I suppose to having a lot of extra line at a cleat, but plenty of situations where the long line can make life easier or--in some cases--might even save your butt in a jam. I've alre...

dockline length
Standard advice seems to be 2/3 boat length for bow and stern lines, full boat length for spring lines. Wondering about going a little bit longer on the bow and stern lines, as when single handing I like to have the bowline handy to me in the cockpit (I run it back along the lifeline and then tie it...

Re: CD 22 Rudder Issue
I have a bit of slop in mine too (Typhoon Senior). As long as the cap is secure to the actual rudder post I don't think you need to worry. I've fussed with it trying to eliminate the play but haven't fully succeeded yet. I think s2sailorlis's suggestion of a washer is a good idea, will try that. At ...

Re: Rigging Tuning
It sounds like you're using something other than a Loos Gauge, which is what I use. Those can be placed anywhere on the shroud or stay. Not sure what rig you have, but with the fractional rig like my Ty Senior has, the forestay and upper shrouds are pretty tight. I'm at 20% of breaking strength on t...

near-fiasco at Camden boat ramp
So we had three pretty good storm surges this winter--king tides with gale-force southeast winds--that did some real damage in Camden Harbor (Maine), including our town boat ramp which was due for rebuilding anyway. I scouted it out last week and thought it looked pretty rough and that I'll launch i...

max. persons on board a TySenior?
I've always tried to keep it to 4 just because that's what the cockpit can comfortably fit, though have done 5 in a pinch with one person down below or on the foredeck. My son just invited 6 friends for a total of 7 (he didn't check with me first). I hate to rain on his plans but that seems like a r...

Re: Advice for new owner of a Cape Dory 22
I own a TySenior, very similar hull. Boat came with a 4hp Yamaha and does just fine here on Penobscot Bay. You should take a careful look at this motor: https://tbnation.net/collections/epropulsion-electric-outboard-motors/products/epropulsion-navy-series-electric-outboard-motor-3-0-6-0. No personal...

Re: Experiences sailing Typhoon vs. 22/Ty Senior
I own a Ty Senior and while I can't compare to a Typhoon weekender because I haven't sailed one, I can attest that the Senior handles all manner of conditions very well.
Also, I launch from a trailer.

Re: time to replace battery?
I have a victron battery monitor and it works great telling me what's going on with the battery. BTW, I had a Lifeline AGM and I switched to Trojan T 105s lead acid. Simple, inexpensive, reliable. I have two 45 watt panels each running through its own MPPT controller because often only one panel is...

Re: time to replace battery?
False alarm--even though charge controller was indicating it was charging, I tested the PV output when disconnected from the charge controller and there was no voltage. Turns out one of the wire splices on the PV leads failed. I redid the splices, reinstalled the panel, and battery voltage started c...

time to replace battery?
Before the 2018 season I bought a Rolls-Surette 12V flooded lead-acid battery ( https://rollsbattery.com/battery/s12-24/ ) to run the modest electrical system on my TySenior. Loads are just the running lights, GPS, depthfinder, interior light, charging phones, etc. A 40W solar panel and a Morningsta...

Re: electric outboard for TySenior
Thanks for the replies everyone. Further research turned up some pretty robust electric outboards that in theory should work great for an auxiliary propulsion, including several hours of cruising with the motor on a fully charged battery. Unfortunately I was looking at about $4-5K investment and did...
