I'd recut
The primary driving force of the sail is caused by the shape, not the finish. For the same 200 odd dollars (with shipping) that the Sailcare treatment costs, the New Genoa Loft should be able to replace boltropes and leachlines, in addition to a judicious belly-tuck to move the draft forward. Whilst...

Yes, and Oh No!
Hi Les: had the 3/4" spin track, too. Would still side-mount if I had it to do all over again. Hi John. The compression loads on a whisker or spinnaker type pole can be very high. I would not trust a boat hook type pole to stay straight in a heavy gust over the stern quarter. If it breaks under...

Did exactly that
Used the HD pole, mounted it with the Forespar mast/boom mounts on the leading edge of the mast, and used it once or twice. In all, it worked well, I would have used it more, but the second year I had the set up, I got new sails, and the need to make my old blown out sails perform better diminished....

No, I should have known...
Great line, Frank. Perhaps I'll work up the courage to try it at home one day.
If I stop posting here, you'll know.

Dutchman cost
I had more then 1 estimate. 3, actually.
Factor in: Intellectual property, development costs, sailmaker training, advertising, and the ever amazing "used on, near or for a boat" factor.
Any one else have any information?

Second the Mack Pack, and...
I'd consider some "memory time" first. If your new loose foot UK was to be able to be fitted with a Dutchman system, which I am skeptical of, it would cost about $650, which, IMHO, is a lot of money for a small benefit. Did you inquire of UK if this could be done? Usually, the loose footed...

Chafe points
Because racing Ensigns use mainly genosa with large overlaps (it's not uncommon to carry the #1 to 18 knots with 4 on the rail) and the wide sheeting angles forced by old tech shroud placement (almost to the toerail) the geonas are sheeted up against the shrouds. Therefore, everybody covers the shro...

3 sheets into the wind
Been there, tried it, too many lines and attachments. Who's into handcuffs, anyway. With the Ensign splashing this Spring after a two year rebuild, and me dealing with a new CDI furler/North G2 #2 genny, I've had a long time to puzzle this out. This is my untested conclusion: 3 jibsheets. The third ...

It's not the age. It's the milage.
I had the same wrinkle in my Ty main when I purchase the boat. The main is blown out (excessively stretched). Recutting the sail, or replacing the boltrope and leachline will not give you much better performance. And you are paying a high price in control and tiller feel because of the condition of ...

Some hope here, I think. Or not. Brick Township, NJ (where I have a second home), a town with more coastal frontage then any other NJ municipality, has passed a law that prohibits any marina conversion to a different usage. Like any other law, this one passed for internectine political reasons, and ...

Well meaning, vague, fuzzy help
On the old Cruising World website (5 years ago, aprox) the was a series of threads about this subject, and the best-accepted advise was to use a hi-tech varnish-like product designed for gym floors. Apparently, as I remember it, the gym stuff was a matte finish with enough tooth to retain some tract...

Hi Sal. Sounds like an interesting project. There is a Ty Sr. across the river from you. I think it winters at Riverbank Marina (right across from TRYC). Harris brought me over to see her several years ago. If you find her I'm sure the well would be exposed at the bottom. If it's not Riverbank, it's...

Yeah, pump it up
Once the upper layer and the old rotten core is out you will have a very flexible layer to rebuild. Jack it up first so you don't have to guess your way to a correct deck shape, like I did (don't ask). Please consider that if the deck is rotted, the cabin top has a problem too. The cabin top is holl...

My house is in Mantoloking Shores on the barrier island, about a mile south of the Mantoloking Bridge, in Brick Township. I've 10 years of sailing this area.
