The Cape Dory Board

Considering purchasing an Alberg 22 (Similar to Cape Dory 22). For anyone who is familiar with these boats- How far out would one sail into the Gulf of Mexico and feel safe? Could they be used for coastal cruising or traveling from mainland Florida to the keys?

Looking to buy a trailer that will fit a Cape Dory 25. Will travel to purchase one. Also, could be interested in a boat as well (CD25).

What is the width of the cape dory keel? Also, what is the width (of the keel) at its thickest point?

Have a keel support on a trailer made from a 9.5" wide board. But the Keel guides on the trailer reduce the thickness to around 7.7"
