Re: We're planning for the Down East Loop in 2016.
Hi, I did the Portland to Mahone Bay and back last summer. The westerly leg around Cape Sable which I did close to shore was way more exciting that the easterly route offshore. The currents up , down and around were a lot of fun. At times they were a handful ( I was single handing the whole trip). T...

Re: Refit Ideas for Instruments
HI, I am amazed at how well my new "backup" chartplotter is working. It is an IPAD running MAPTECH APP with a local raster chart (total cost $49- assuming you already own an IPAD). The "twelve" satalite fixes may be more accurate than the IPADS GPS receiver but I wont know until ...

Re: 6 pack license
Hi, I got mine (OUPV --6 pack --- with 50 ton master and sailing endorsement) about seven years ago. It was a pleasant and worthwhile activity. Things have changed a lot since then ( you need to get your TWIC for example. They have also gotten stricter with the medical for us "older" guys,...

Marinium cleats
Has anyone tried nickel plating marinium cleats? Once the old cleats are cleaned up they have little resistence to oxidation and needs to be anodized, plated or painted. In addition replacing (no longer produced sizes) requires drilling new/different holes.

Re: Moving to NYC
The 79th street marina on the west side has moorings and is easily accesible, but watch out for rats if you opt for a slip. !

digital radar
While on a recent trip watching the radar display showing that we were engulfed in heavy rain (and high winds), my shipmate told me, when he replaced his radar unit it had to be a digital radome/display. Asleep at the wheel again. I intentionally let facebook and twitter pass me by but I had no idea...

missing signature
The new rendition of the board has caused my signature that I had at the end of my posts to disappear / or more accurately to fail to install. See below for example. Any help would be appreciated. Len _________________ Ignorance is the mother of adventure. <a href="http://s258.photobucket.com/a...

Re: Mixing Batteries
Maine Sail, As they say -I agree but. My choices are limited- The 2 4ds are fairly new so I am not going to replace them yet. The space prevents me from using anything but U1 size batteries for bank 2. However, Xantrex does allow me to designate the battery "type" for each bank as well as ...

Mixing Batteries
I have always been told that one should not mix battery types in a bank (gel, agm, acid). I have two banks ( 2- 4d gels and 2-U1 gels.) These fit snugly in the space below by starboard berth. The U1 's are not very powerful - can't turn over the engine even though they are the designated start batter...

Take the $ and run
Dean, The safety of your boat and crew depends on the ability of your anchor to do what is expected of it. Debatting the engineering points is of no value to you if you are faced with the choice of getting a refund (and get a proven product) or possibly getting into trouble. I have no idea whether t...

changing profile prevented
the "YOUR SETTINGS" function does not allow me to change my email adress. It states " Sorry, but that e-mail address is already registered to a user. " Apparently, I must have two registered users. How do I erase one?
