I use the Jabsco electric pump

BUT there is a warning!. The 5 gallon bucket is fine, the top does not lock onto the bucket and the pump on the bucket top makes it top heavy, so you pick the bucket up by the handle with only 1 qt of oil in it, the pump tips the bucket over dumping the oil on the floor. I put two screws to hold the...

Home owners

I placed my boat insurance CD 28 Intrepid under my home owners and it was around $250. I was required to submit a survey for the boat, which I had and had to prove that safety and sailing CG classes were taken. I also submitted the Navgation class certification. I have done this for about 7 years an...

In Salem Harbor, Mass

We only have ROCKS. On our very first trip with only our main sail up (yes, I was nervous) we were sailing for about an hour when we heard an awful crash from another boat (estimated at 36 - 40 ft ) hit the rocks and lift the boat up and out of the water. The crew went flying. They could not have be...

Main Sail

I had my mainsail built by Doyle in Salem, Mass. and been very pleased.Because I never had a sail built, they sat down with me and helped me decide what I needed, what I wanted and what I could afford. I had the sail built in the fall and could pick up when done. They gave me around $300 off the nor...

Hold tank

John, I went a different solution which may be better and cheaper. I own a Cape Dory Intrepid 28' 1. I designed and had fabricated a 24 gal tank from a company in Rhode Island, that fit under one of the births. The birth is on the same side as the head, From the head to ( I used the really good no s...

well I am not sure...

We call it politics but Mr Manino will be laying off hundreds of police and fire. I do not think it is unreasonable to be reimbursed but it appears that the Tall Ship Committee is being a bit arrogant saying they will hold the event anyways. I am not sure what the Tall Ship committee financially get...

I love my SailRite!

I also purchased a Sailrite LSZ1 with a jib and a mainsail kit for a Compac 19" I also started with Tiller cover, clutch covers. I now have boating friends that need seams fixed on dodgers through 8 layers of fabric calling me! I have sewn for a long time but having a REALLY nice machine is tru...

Guns

For me this is a simple question. i would not go anywhere that I needed a gun. I know of a fellow who used to backpack 7 miles into the woods alone. He was met by two drunken yahoos with an attack dog. The dog was inhis face and he asked the owners to contain the animal... "hahahaha... are you ...

YIPE - NED!!

Ned, If you start with chemical (aka flammable) DO NOT GO TO A HEAT GUN! The chemical can remain on the surface, then the heat will light it off and then you get to call the insurance company! === 30 years ago, I worked in a maintenance department for a factory during the summers. I was not there be...

bottom stripping

I know that some will not agree with my method for removing the bottom paint but I have 14 layers to remove. Essentially, I used a belt sander with 28 grit belts to cut through the top 10-12 layers. I put plastic down on the ground and wet everything down. I hooked my belt sander up to a shop vac wi...

sailmaker

I used Doyle In Salem, Mass for a new sail, washing and maintenance of my older Genuas.

Competative price plus I got to talk to them where the
off shore sailmakers just give you what you ask even if it is foolish.

Downside?

The wet environment is one issue, with the second being in a position to be messed with if someone came on the boat while unattended. Could some catch their foot on it when you are motoring and "blink" goes the aternator/generator if turned off? Not sure if that is a concern where you sail.

Why A CD?

A friend took us sailing overnight to pulpit harbor in Maine. My wife, son and I had a WONDERFUL time. Ginny and Rob had owned their Intrepid 28 for a meer 25 years (2nd owner) and still had a love for the boat... Travelled extensively and did a stint living on board for a few months.. The only diff...

New Sails

My brother happen to be at the Annapolis Boat Show where Doyle had a booth. They gave him a price with material cut in Salem Mass and sewn in Maryland (all Doyle)... because we sail out of Salem, Mass, I had been working with Doyle up here... The show price for a new main for an intrepid 28 was arou...
