Re: prop question for a CD 28.
Wolf 's two-bladed prop moves her around just fine, and we sail out of the Merrimack River where the current can be a tad fast. A little faster is always nicer, I suppose, but the two-bladed prop gets her up to hull speed fairly quickly, and let's face it; Cape Dory's do NOT plane. As for docking, ...

Re: Engine overheat; troubleshooting?
I can confirm that on the Wolf the raw water pump is a Jabsco.

Re: Launched!
Wolf 's sea trial went fine with the exception of the mainsail furling jamming (which I cleared) and the engine overheating near the end of the day (which I fixed by replacing the raw-water impeller). She sailed like a dream. I'm undecided if single-handing her the first time out was bravery or stu...

Re: Engine overheat; troubleshooting?
Steve, on CD 28s with fresh-water cooling the raw water pump is actually the belt-driven pump on the front. And yes, that is the first thing you should check (assuming the raw water intake seacock is open). That's exactly what it was; the impeller on the pump mounted on the front of the engine need...

Engine overheat; troubleshooting?
My engine overheated on the way back to the mooring last night. It's an MD7a with fresh-water cooling. Water stopped coming out of the exhaust, so can I assume that the first thing to check would be the raw water pump on the aft-facing side of the engine? I know this is a newbie question, but I've n...

Re: spongy backing plate on intake seacock
It's the underside of the backing plate, the part you can't inspect, that should worry you. I'd go with the FRP replacement.

Source for table legs?
My CD28 came with a galley table that's missing it's two legs. The sockets on the floor are labeled 'Tidee Products' but I've been unable to find any legs that fit or track down Tidee Products. Does any one have any suggestions as to where I might find table legs? Or am I better off fabricating my o...

Re: Cabin veneer?
Thanks for the quick responses!
Yes, I have the laminate and not the actual teak (Wolf is a 1978 CD 28). The idea of the white paint sounds good in principle, so what I'm doing is Photoshopping a few pictures and seeing how it would look before I actually do it. It certainly brightens up the cabin.

Cabin veneer?
I've been busily updating/restoring/fixing up Wolf 's cabin, painting the tired fiberglass with urethane, cleaning, buffing, etc. The interior spaces are starting to look good and she's starting to feel like my boat. I am completely stymied by the veneer; is there something I can do to make it brigh...

Re: New CD28 owner, advice sought.
Jeff,
I had Wolf transported to Newburyport right after Labor Day when it became apparent that due to work and weather I wasn't going to be able to sail her up in any reasonable timeframe...
...which kind of stank as I'd sold my Pearson by that time, so my sailing season was cut short.

Yes, and I have an A with FWC. No idea if this was an add-on or if the ship came from the factory with FWC.

Re: New CD28 owner, advice sought.
Richard, the motor mounts are in great shape. It looks like they've been replaced fairly recently. Jeff, Wolf is laying at Overland Marine in Newburyport. Hurricane Irene quashed my plans to sail her to her new homeport/mooring in Newburyport so I had her transported to the yard I normally use (and ...

Re: New CD28 owner, advice sought.
Duncan, The in-mast system is definitely not a CDI. It looks like an older Forespar but I can't confirm that (and the stick is currently stepped and sitting on a shrink-wrapped rack). There's an external track for the main as well and I'm toying with just using that rather than mess with the in-mast...

New CD28 owner, advice sought.
Hi all! Having sailed a Pearson 26 for 15 years (and having been bounced around once too often in seas a little too big for a Pearson 26) I'm now the new owner of a 1978 CD28 ("Wolf" out of Salem, MA, soon to be Newburyport MA). The Cape Dory is exactly what I've been searching for over th...
