CD 25 vs. Meridian 25
Through an unexpected chain of events, I have exchanged my beloved Cape Dory 25 for a Rhodes Seafarer Meridian 25. I really love the look of the Meridian and appreciate many of its features, but I have no idea of how it will sail compared to the Cape Dory. Any thoughts on this? General observations ...

Tiller vs. Wheel
I have my eye on a lovely Southern Cross 28. In my opinion, the only negative about the boat, other than the asking price, is that it has a wheel instead of a tiller. But is this really a negative? For one thing, the cockpit on the Southern Cross isn't large, so I could imagine that a wheel would ta...

CD 26 or CD 27 Wanted
Please send me a private message if you are interested in selling your Cape Dory 26 or 27. I am located in Marion, Massachusetts, just off Cape Cod, but I will travel just about anywhere along the east coast for the right boat. Planning to moor my new Cape Dory in North Haven, Maine, when I find her...

5 HP Tohatsu Sailpro (Propane) Motor for CD 25
I have a literally unused 5 HP Tohatsu Sailpro with the 20-inch shaft for sale, accompanied by two 10-gallon composite tanks. The motor cost me $1900 and the tanks were $130 each. Will sell the package for $1650. This motor is ideal for a CD 25. It fits in the well perfectly and can actually turn ab...

CD 27 in MA or RI
Hi everybody, I'm looking to upgrade to something a little larger than my CD 25, and the CD 27 and CD 28 look like good choices. I have my eyes on three CD 27s, but two out of three are south of the Mason Dixon line, and the third is in New York. I've never actually seen a 27, and I'd like to check ...

Re: CD25 Outboard help needed!
Although I have only been out sailing a few times this summer, I am having good luck with my new 2020 5 HP Tohatsu Propane Sailpro. It fits nicely in the lazarette and can turn about 45 degrees on each side, although I have locked my outboard in place and only use the tiller for steering. Five HP se...

Springy Cabin Sole?
I'm in the process of selling my CD 25 and a prospective buyer said that there was delamination in the floor of the main cabin, mostly around the bilge. She showed me that the sole depressed a little bit when she stepped on it. This was true enough, although the depression was not more than a fracti...

Re: CD25 Outboard help needed!
No drawbacks to propane as far as I can tell. It's offers 30% reduction in emissions, is a little (but not a lot) quieter, and costs about the same to operate as gasoline (I think). I filled up an 11 gallon tank for under $10, and that should get me 5 hours at WOT -- and who knows how long it will l...

Re: CD25 Outboard help needed!
The propane version of the 5 HP Sailpro fits nicely in the well. It even turns. Apparently it is significantly smaller than the gasoline version. You could also consider removing the handles from the outboard you are looking at. Here is a picture of my installation with two composite propane tanks. ...

Re: Prop Angle
Thanks Jim and John for the helpful responses. I just went out to look at my outboard more carefully, and I'm a little embarrassed to report that the pitch of the shaft is completely adjustable. One of these days I'll pull her out and adjust the shaft so that it hangs vertically in the well. Thanks ...

Prop Angle
Hi everybody -- mounted my new Tohatsu 5 hp propane outboard in the well of my CD 25 recently. Fits nicely and is smaller than the gas-powered 6 hp. It actually turns more than 90 degrees left and right on the mount, whereas the the old motor just barely fit and was locked in. I noticed, however, th...

Re: Typhoon Senior Outboard
I am in the process of selling my 25-inch Tohatsu gas-powered Sailpro and replacing it with a 20-inch propane version. I never had a good relationship with my gas Sailpro, primarily because I didn't use it enough. The propane outboard will be much cleaner, and I will not have to deal with issues rel...
