Re: Broken Throtle Cable Ruins Beautiful Day

Two seasons ago... Similar story.. My last underway before the winterize dance. Got underway and about 10 feet from the dock and "Clink".... no transmission. We maneuvered to a piling and warped the boat back into her slip.... Anyway, that winter, the one two years ago that sucked real bad...

Re: Cabin sole varnish recommendations

Jim Walsh, As promised.... Some pictures of the cabin sole. As mentioned it requires three coats and I only have two down. I ran out of time. This is the #60 I mentioned in my earlier post. It is not glossy as varnish but much more durable. I intend on doing one more feather out and light sanding th...

"New Boom" single line reefing

Thought I might share what I hope is my last big improvement project. When I bought the boat it had an old in boom furler that was not in use and was to large for the boat. Outhaul was a jury rig and the boom heavy. My long term plan was to get a new boom (Selden) with new track with stainless cars,...

Re: Cabin sole varnish recommendations

I can share with you what I have done... For what it's worth... When I got the boat the previous owner used gloss varnish... It was a pain the the rear and NOT durable. I followed the advise of our Marina's master carpenter (we happen to have an ace boat woodworker) and he uses Interlux Goldspar Sat...

Re: Deck Repair, Repaint

Not sure that this will help.... But, the original maintenance guy who used to run Hartge's is still in business. He is running Hartge Yacht Yard not the maintenance at Hartge Yacht Harbor. His facility is just across the road on the other side of the point. Just about five minutes from the original...

Re: Chinese made solar panels

As a side note (another).... For anyone who doesn't like Chinese manufactured circuits.. Great! But you had better drop your cell phone, iPad, Mac or PC.... while you are at it ... Just some food for thought. I won't be posting any more because I will now trash my Mac...

Re: Refit Ideas for Instruments

Last winter I bit the bullet and replaced all the old Ray Marine electronics at once. The banker left town for a week, big mistake). I opted for Garmin since I prefer their electronics over Ray Marine (personal preference). The backbone is not proprietary (NMEA 2K), easy to install yourself and run ...

Re: Teak oil, Deks Olje, or Cetol?

Roberto's comments are good and one of the options.. I have, in the past, used Epi's, just one of the options. This winter I reviewed the two below conversations and will try Awlspar with a Cetol Gloss two coat finish... (read the first article). On the toe rail which seems to give me particular iss...

Re: Brightwork question...

Well... What many of the others said... I would "Never" sand or possibly only as a last resort. I use a heat gun and it's easy or not that difficult after you figure it out... I keep it on low, at a distance... After a while you will figure out the correct distance and time to expose... An...

Re: Dinghy ???s

Roberto, I have a slat bottom dink (portability)... Also a couple of lb's more than I used to be and no longer a spring chicken. And yes, the one I have is the one in the e-site listed from WM.... When I did my research I reviewed data from Practical Sailor and searched,.. mostly, West Marine and De...
