Re: Trailering a CD 28
My 28 came with a steel cradle. I put two axles (one with brakes) under it and added a tongue with a hitch for 2 5/16 ball. I've used it for almost 20 years now to bring the boat home. I have friends who did as you're thinking and put the cradle on a construction equipment trailer. It didn't end wel...

Was holding my breath for you and the Far Reach. Breathing again.
Good prep pays off again.

Re: Far Reach Hauled Out—For the Year
I kinda know how you're feeling. I've been out all summer while we went up to Alaska with the RV. Hoping to launch Sat for a very short season. I'll need to haul out early Oct. I know you're agonizing over the engine, but the Far Reach is so damn good looking and the outboard just breaks the spell. ...

Re: Where Is The Far Reach—Part II
John,
It's back now but still upside down on my device. I use a Mac so there is no right click rotation for me.
I just rotated the laptop. LOL
Australia or the VI, you're together. It's all good. Enjoy!

It was upside down. Now it's not there. At least on my device.

Re: Persistence and Determination to Change Your Circumstanc
A career in the Corps probably was a big factor in your perseverance. So many boat rebuilds get abandoned when the work keeps going and going and going. But all of your work would have been for naught if you hadn't prepped seriously for the hurricane. Sailing isn't just the prep of the boat, it's do...

Re: Leak
If that isn't from the bilge (and it looks like it may be too low for the bilge) then it is probably from the void space behind the ballast. My 25 and my current 28 both had this void space. It is apparently just the way Cape Dory built them. Water condenses in there and accumulates over time. On bo...

Re: Jib Shaking on CD 25
I came to this thread late but the fairlead on the deck is where I led my jib sheets when I had a CD25. I think that may be the biggest part of the answer, but there is a lot of other great advice in this thread. It's amazing how well the 25 stands up to the wind. I sailed mine all over Lake Michiga...

Far Reach escaped unscathed because of proper prep by a dedicated captain.
I'd sail with John anywhere, anytime.

Re: tuning
You might want to get a Loos tension gauge. It will allow you to set the tension precisely. There are a number of You Tube videos Which I haven't watched
) on how to use one. I set mine after the first sail when they've had a chance to stretch. And maybe again mid season.

Re: CD25 Riding High
Is your water tank empty. My 25 had a 30 gal water tank below the V berth. That's 266 pounds of weight in the end of the boat. I always sailed with mine full to keep her level.

Re: Prop size
Jerry: I have a similar "retired" MD7A and put on a Campbell Sailor over a year ago. Would you please share the size & pitch you have as mine is not getting as much speed... (: Thanks! I won't be home for a week, but I can check when I get back. Mine is an MD7B. I think the B revs hig...

Re: Prop size
I don't have a Yanmar, my 28 has a Volvo. But I went with a Campbell Sailor prop. I had a two blade before that and went to a 3. I picked up a knot of boat speed at the same rpms. And I don't feel like I've lost any speed under sail. The specs probably don't matter since the engines are different, b...
