Re: Polyethelene tank repair
Thanks all for the info. Being a belt and suspenders type I'm going to try to plastic weld it using milk jug (HDPE) as the rod.
And then I'll cover it with the West GFlex.
I'll share results when it's done.

Polyethelene tank repair
I have a couple of cracked fittings in the water tanks on my CD28. JB Plastic Weld says it won't work on polyethylene. I've looked at plastic welders but the price range was from 185 to 250. Don't want to spend that for a one time use. Haven't located a shop that does this near me. Any suggestions o...

Re: Lock Down Books?
John, You'll no doubt enjoy The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors. While it is not a seagoing tale, you probably already have The Last Stand of Fox Company in your library. Neptune's Inferno was a great read. Often unrecognized is that the Navy lost about 3 to 1 compared to the Marines at Guadalcana...

Re: CD28 dimensions question
The top of the cabin won't be the highest point. The pulpit will be taller. Unless you plan on removing......
I can get you dimensions once you decide what your highest point will be.

Re: Varnish Recommendations
I use Epiphanes Rapid Coat and their Wood Finish Gloss. Rapid Coat has a warm brown color, Rapid Clear is, wait for it..... clear. I like the brown tint. You don't have to sand between coats of Rapid Coat. Of course there's a lot of sanding before you start finishing. :D I put on 5 coats of Rapid Co...

Re: A Pleasant Distraction During Coronavirus
John,
Thanks for the suggestion. I've seen OCH before but never really looked hard. The price is too good to pass up. I just happen to have a little extra time on my hands at the moment.
Thanks!

Re: Brown bootstripe paint
Jim,
The photo of your boat's stripe looks brown. Must be the website with the sample on it. How has it held up? Any bubbles from water contact?

Re: Brown bootstripe paint
Doug,
Interesting idea. Lot better price than marine paint. Last time I did it, it was a thing of beauty. You could have shaved in the reflection. I put it in the water and it looked just like everyone else's. LOL
10 ft rule is probably ok.
Thanks,
Jerry

Re: Brown bootstripe paint
The Awl grip looks more red than I'd like. On my computer it looks closer to Burgundy.
Alexseal has a sable brown that looks closer but they stress it can bubble if wet for even a few days. Not sure how that would hold up in a boot stripe.

Brown bootstripe paint
It's about time to redo the bootstripe on my CD28. The present color is a chocolate brown. (My sail covers are Sunbrella True Brown). I'm looking to stay with brown but not finding brown paint. I think I used Interlux Brightside last time although I'm not sure. Any leads?

Re: CD28 stuffing box
The stuffing box is designed to leak. A drop every 8 or 10 seconds is what I shoot for. This keeps the prop shaft cool. There are some that are designed to not leak but I'm assuming yours is the standard. If you post a couple of pictures the wisdom of this board will help determine what you have and...

Re: More CD28 Questions
What year and what hull # is your 28?
That will help us find similar boats.
My 1983 #341 has the holding tank under the v-berth. Pumpout fitting is on the bow starboard side.
The fitting on port aft quarter is bilge bump outlet on mine.

Re: CD28 with a coachtop traveller
In regards to trailering,
I converted the steel cradle for my CD28 to a trailer by adding axels and a tongue. I don't pull it far, about 15 miles to launch and the same to home. But it is easily lifted off and placed on the trailer by the derrick at my yacht club.
