Re: Where Is The Far Reach--Part III

The ice in the icebox is good. But it's the load of stuff in your John Vigor's Black Box that really mattered. Well done!

Re: 25D vs. 27

Just weighing in on the teak question. I use (boat is in Wisconsin) Epifanes Rapid Coat followed by their Wood Finish Gloss. I remove the old finish, and apply 5 coats of Rapid Coat. Then I sand before applying 3 coats of Wood Finish Gloss. If I touch up any nicks or wear spots I can get 7 or 8 year...

Re: Interesting Boats

I think you'd have to try really hard to make an ugly schooner. A work of art!

Re: CD25 brightwork

Don't know if you've made your decision yet. What look are you going for? Cetol is ok. Looks decent. Varnish is still the best looking. I use Epifanes Rapid Coat which gives a brownish tone to the teak. I do 5 coats. No sanding between coats. Then a light sanding and 3 coats of Epifanes Wood Finish ...

Re: CD28 / Volvo MD7A propeller sizing

I also switched to a Campbell Sailor prop. I don't notice any issues with drag (I'm not a racer) and I picked up a knot under power at the same rpm.

Re: Install Halyard Restrainer and if so, where?

I just installed a halyard restrainer on my CD28. I put the mast on the lawn and after measuring the distance from the headstay attachment to the base of the mast, I put the furler in place with the drum spaced out from the mast. I found a spot for the restrainer that gave me what looks to be that 7...

Re: Seacock Hoses

5200 is for below the waterline and 4000/4200 are for above the waterline. I believe it says that right on the tube.
4200 is rated for below the waterline. It has half the adhesion of 5200 so you can get it apart with some effort v 5200 which requires a debond product.

Roller furling drum height

As I plan a roller furling headsail on my CD28 I have to decide how high the bottom of the drum needs to be off the deck (the sailmaker needs to know the length available for the sail). The issue is clearance for the anchor. Measuring with the anchor in place is pretty straightforward. But I'm tryin...
