Re: Mast wires
I too do not like adding extra wires in the mast, but found a small foredeck light handy for docking and anchoring in the dark. In my case I did not like the limited coverage of a forehead lamp. I have not done crossing of heavy freighter traffic in my own sailboats, but as crew (electronics tech) I...

Re: Considering buying a CD25 - questions on rigging and tra
I agree with most of the advice provided above, with the following caveats: You will be lucky if you can find a launch for our type of full keel 25 ft sailboat. I wish I could. It is expensive to rely on marina lifts. An empty older CD 25 hull and rig is 4000#. Add 500 lbs loaded, conservative. The ...

Re: CD 25 rig for sale
Typhooner, we have discussed this and Rick is thinking we should look closer at this possibility, and thinks he might have a trucker friend who makes a loop up there who might be helpful. Are you close enough to your mast storage to shoot a couple pics showing the lower winch area and top of the mas...

Re: CD 25 rig for sale
Thank you very much for the very good info. I will tell my buddy about all this. If I were racing hard, I might change all wire in 5 yrs. My cruising boats were good for at 10 yrs, with one swage joint replaced with an obvious rusty broken wire strand in a lower swage. Btw, for anyone following this...

Re: CD 25 rig for sale
thanks for the note. I will tell my friend, but that is a really long drive, especially in the winter.
Just out of curiosity, what work would need to be done to the rig? And what year boat did it come off of? Do you have any pics I can show him?
Thanks
BobC

Re: CD 25 rig for sale
Was the rig sold? I have a buddy who recently lost his entire rig and sails last week, which were stored in his storage barn. A fast sweeping forest fire razed his property and nearby neighbors, which was started accidently by others, up wind. The boat is a 1977 CD25 which was luckily stored outside...

Re: JIB DOWNHAUL
All interesting, and I too also prefer simple hank on head sails. Just a personal preference which I have written about here before. I have often sailed alone on local and coastal sails on the east coast of Florida, and intercoastal. I have always installed and used a jib downhaul on both my previou...

Re: Moving my Typhoon Back
The rubber piece that fits into the bow bracket is broken, and the bow is resting on side of the metal bracket. I need to move the boat back two inches or so, so that I can safely trailer it down to the launch ramp, a distance of about a mile, without causing the bow to rub up against the bare brac...

Re: Outboard: SMALL!!!
I would gladly trade my three year old Tohatsu 4 stroke for the Mercury 2 stroke I had for 18 trouble-free years. It eventually cracked a cylinder wall but the 4 stroke has never been reliable. I take that back, it is reliable, it can be relied upon to require attention to run somewhat reliably. :r...

Re: US Destroyer collides with merchant ship
I've been following this story too. I spent a month as a midshipman on an FF many years ago and have almost three years of sea time as a Marine aboad amphibs so I have a lifelong interest in warships--or any ship for that matter. And while we Marines may often tease our sailor brothers and sisters ...

Re: Outboard: SMALL!!!
Cruise and Carry outboards from the 70's and 80's are still widely available here in the Northeast. I believe they made a 1.2 and a 3.5hp. http://smalloutboards.com/images/cc6600xmar15/side.jpg ---------------- I would recommend against these air cooled 2 stroke outboards due to the incredible amou...

Re: 25 mast support imbed steel structure?
. . . I bought this shallower draft CD25 over the deeper/nicer CD25D or CD27/28 for use in my area with skinnier waters, and to take it on the road to sail distant waters using the trailer it is sitting on. I will also be using new external chainplates.[/quote] When we had our 27 surveyed the surve...

Re: 25 mast support imbed steel structure?
Here is an article on the mast steps used by Cape Dory in the 70s. It has pictures of the rectangular 5" x 2" mild steel used under the mast step. Although the pictures are from a 27, the mast step of the 25 is probably similar. http://www.sailfeed.com/2015/09/mast-step-repairs-with-the-t...

25 mast support imbed steel structure?
Does anyone here have knowledge of the original steel imbeded below the mast in the early series of 25s, like my 1975? I would like to know if it is just a port to starboard, or fore and aft steel plate glassed in below the mast plate, or if it is a larger square plate. I guess I can drill explorato...

Re: Lithium battery for cd25 day sailer?
I would be curious as to what prices you are seeing. I am used to buying the low priced golf cart batteries for all my boats, and RVs which are very reasonably priced and are durable. I saw a new Li 12V 100AH battery the other day advertised for $1000. I was shocked. I am normally happy with lead ac...
