I used lateral clam cleats

On both of my Typhoons, I mounted lateral clam cleats on the outside of each coaming flush with the top edge. See following link for an example: http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_11151_10001_92683_-1?cid=chanintel&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=92683 Lateral clam cleats wor...

Ron:

My first choice would be PB Blaster. Second choice would be Liquid Wrench. Third choice probably some heat. I had bronze open turnbuckles on my '71 Ty and never really had this problem. Use two wrenches as you probably know, one to immobilize and the other to turn. Good luck.

Hi Joe: I can't help you as far as contact information, costs, etc. for a captain to do the particular trip you have mentioned. However, have you considered land transport by a boat hauler as an alternative option? I'm not sure how the costs would compare. Perhaps others may wish to comment. Jim

Teak looks real nice. I think I'll use the natural teak color when I have to refinish my teak again. It was not available when I did my teak the first time. I use the Cetol High Gloss over the Cetol Marine. You mention that you had used steel wool between coats. I'm not sure if you did so on your pr...

I had four Brownell SB-3 (35-52") for the CD22D that I owned. The keel blocking was approx. 16" off the ground. I think you'll find that the SB-2 is too high considering the draft for the CD22 and the height of blocking under the keel typically used.

You can buy fuel-resistant rubber gasket material at a local automotive supply store. I also replaced this gasket on the CD22D that I owned. I believe the gasket you are referring to is for the float for the fuel gauge at the top of the tank. You can use the old gasket or the flange as a template. T...

Andy: From your picture, it looks like you have a double mooring pendant but it is unclear if both pendants attach to the top of the float. Looks like something (line) is going to some point below the float. Is this correct? For the type of float that you have, both pendants should attach at the top...

Alternatives to mineral oil for in-hull transducer?

Have a Uniden QT-206 depthfinder with an in-hull, adjustable transducer. I know a number of Cape Dory owners have the same setup that I do. Initially used propylene glycol (R/V anti-freeze) in which to place the transducer. After about two seasons of use, I started getting erratic readings which app...

question for John Laton--prime or not prime?

I was told last year by a Pettit technical rep that a bronze prop should be primed before applying their hard copper based bottom paint (non-ablative). I believe the prep was similar to that for Interlux products indicated in the link given by SPIBob. I was told basically the same thing by Interlux ...

Diesel fuel is without doubt safer than gasoline. I totally agree. I would not own a gasoline powered inboard. I do however question just how "safe" it (diesel fuel) is as proclaimed/implied by some in this thread. See a MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for diesel fuel: http://www.petroca...

Hi: "I read that the only difference between auto diesel and marine diesel are taxes and dye. Is that right?" Yes. I have never bought fuel at a fuel dock, always at an automotive service station. This I did for the Yanmar 1GM in the CD22D and now for the Yanmar 4 cyl. 75 hp. in my downeas...

Why I used Poli-glow

The boat I have now has a dark green hull. From what I have been told, dark green gel coat is probably the most prone to oxidation (fading) among the colors. When I first got my current boat, it was moderately faded so I spent several days compounding and then waxing with Collinite 885. After a few ...

On my two Typhoons and CD22D, I would do basically as described by Dean Abramson with a clove hitch at the tiller. Worked fine in over twenty + years on a mooring.

Hi Larry:

I assume you are referring to Poli-Glow. If so, see following link:

http://www.myboatstore.com/poliglow.asp

Its worked great for me. I bought the kit.
