Re: More CD28 Questions
Grayce Avery is a 1984 model. Like Steve, the holding tank is built into the aft end of bilge. Ours matches this description from Steve "There is a second access hatch in the cabin sole, directly over the tank. When you lift it, you should see the sanitation hoses going into and out of the tank...

Re: Spartan Frozen Seacocks
When we bought our CD 28, the engine raw water intake seacock was frozen. Tried tapping and solvents to no avail. There was enough room to put a gear puller on it in such a way that it would push the tapered plug out of the body. Applied force very gently and left it under tension for several days, ...

Re: Repower CD28-Beta 14 or Beta 16
Our 1984 CD 28 came to us with the original Universal M-18 and we re-powered with the Beta 16. My logic was that, since the M-18 was de-rated to an actual 14hp, the Beta 14 could have done the job. However, we are on the Columbia River and have currents and locks to deal with. The Beta 16 is about 7...

Re: add backing plate how support side stay ?
I have a 1984 CD 28. It's not clear to me what you mean by the term "main side stay." The CD 28 has an upper stay and two lower stays on each side. If the backing plate will be for the upper stay (main side stay?) and you're doing the work with the mast up, the forward and aft lowers will ...

Re: Installing a Bronze Mushroom Vent
They are called "3" articulating mushroom vents" on the Port Townsend Foundry web catalog.

Re: Installing a Bronze Mushroom Vent
John, All your projects turn out beautifully and the Davy vents look great! I bought the same vinyl vents for Grayce Avery, but they looked horrible after only one season. We found these bronze vents being manufactured by Port Townsend Foundry, here in the Northwest. They are drop in replacements fo...

Re: Cleaning interior teak slats
We did this job on Grayce Avery our CD 28. My first advice is to number them on the back as you take them out. I used a code to denote port or starboard, an arrow to show the forward direction and then numbered them where "1" was the top one and so on. Each one is unique to a location. I s...

Re: Plugged Scuppers
Plunger did not work because the scupper is so close in the corner that you can't get a seal - tried that.

Plugged Scuppers
Grayce Avery, our CD28, had very sluggish cockpit scuppers toward the end of summer. It was easy to get 1 - 2” of standing water in the cockpit after a washdown. I tried a flush on each scupper with the hose, but this seemed to pack it in worse. Certainly it did not help. The bend in the hose, first...

John,
I’d like to buy the sail cover. Sent you an email through the Board link with my details. Have you seen that message?

Re: A small drain question
Our typhoon has accumulated enough plant matter and dirt to plug the cockpit drains on a couple of occasions. Our 1976 model does not have screens or shields over the cockpit drain openings. I have had good luck applying a garden hose directly to the opening (no nozzle on the hose) and just letting ...
