Re: Mast heel and step
looking at the pics in the last post by Jim....I do not see enough gap between the base of the mast and seat to get any significant rotation of the mast when lowering it...maybe 30deg from vertical before the aft edge of mast bottoms out on the seat and if that occurs, one can develop a significant ...

Re: Mast heel and step
on further thought, again, since there is a gap between the base of the mast and the seat, my original statement of the load in the base of mast fore and aft and athwart the boat is resisted by friction between the base of the mast and the seat is incorrect in this case....

Re: Mast heel and step
taking a closer look at the base of the mast...can not tell if the thru bolt is meant to provide a hinge mechanism when lowering the mast...if that is true, I don't see a sufficient gap between the base of the mast and the seat that would allow much rotation...so maybe the damage shown on the base o...

Re: Mast heel and step
I don't see an immediate problem in the mast shown in the pics...the damage may be more extensive when you get a chance to examine it more closely.....since the mast is in compression there is no danger of pull-thru of the bolt....there is some base load fore and aft and athrwart the boat which is m...

Re: Anti-Fouling Paint for my CD 25
you do not need to fill the bucket with fresh water....it does not need to be watertite...it seems that just restricting the constant flow of water/nutrients prevents the marine growth from occuring.. the bucket is anchored off the skeg of the motor and combined with the constant tension of the bung...

Re: comparison of CD22 CD Senior and Sea Sprite 23
I sailed a 1979 seasprite23 weekender(CE Ryder built) for almost 30yrs. It was a joy to sail in every sense of the word. Easy on the eye and seaworthy. In fact, one was sailed across the atlantic in 1974 by Robert Gainer(RIP). I have not one complaint about the boat which is rare nowadays. Low maint...

Re: CD 25 cockpit drains?
I understand the reluctance of using automotive radiator hose in a marine environment and had to overcome that myself. When I began to check the operating conditions of the cockpit drain hose versus the conditions encountered on an automotive engine I felt more confident in using it. I would be more...

Re: CD 25 cockpit drains?
I used an automotive radiator hose on my SS23 for the cockpit drain hose.... the cockpit drain hose does not operate under any meaningful pressure or temperature.... my reasoning was that the radiator hose operates under much more severe conditions than the cockpit drain hose... Ofcourse, use a top ...

Re: Jib Shaking on CD 25
I have experienced the same issue in high wind(20+) situations especially when pointing high into the wind....I do not see the windward shrouds in the video as being too loose .....what I do see is that they are vibrating(which does not indicate that they are loose)...anyway it defies the law of phy...
