I put a cabin top traveler on my old CD 28 25 years ago. It was the single best thing I ever did to the boat. I sailed i all kinds of weather and never had any problem with it.

Re: Wheel to tiller conversion
Nice, I'm glad to hear someone else is doing this. Not that I have any doubts about it. I plan to glue together some teak boards to make a similar platform to cover the hole. I haven't drilled the hole yet but I have a drill press which I will probably utilize. I did happen to have a fiberglass tube...

Re: Question: Need recommendation for through hull step wren
I've just stuck the end of an extension for a 1/2" drive socket in the hole and turned it with the socket wrench. On a larger hole just cut a couple of notches in a socket that will fit in the hole.

Winter Cover
This fall I made a new winter cover for Nutmeg. It is a frameless cover as I didn't want to have to deal with carting a frame back and forth to Vermont. It drapes over the boom which I braced with a couple of preventers. The forward section uses the whisker pole as a joist. The fabric is called Surl...

Wheel to tiller conversion
I am in the process of converting from the wheel to a tiller on my CD 36 "Nutmeg". I have removed the pedestal and all the gear attached to it. I bought an 8 1/2" shaft extension which will connect to the rudder shaft where the emergency tiller would attach. I bit the bullet and bough...

Re: Coaming backrests
I have wooden backrests that drop over the coaming boards. They are slats of wood attached to 2 boards that are hinged so that when not using it it can be folded up and put in a locker. I am heading to the boat in couple of days if you are interested I can take some pictures

Re: Canvas Snap Setting Recommendations?
Sailrite sells a cast die piece that does a great job making snaps. It uses a rivet gun to set the snap. It costs around $25. I just bought my second one (lost the 1st one to the sea). Here is the part number 104232

Re: Stern tube damage
Micheal, if you are so inclined I have a fiberglass tube that is 1 1/2" ID , 2" OD and a foot long that I'd be willing to give to you for the cost of shipping it. I don't know if this is something you feel capable of doing or if it is even an appropriate size for that boat. PM me if you wa...

Re: Cape Dory 36 chainplate issue: would you buy this boat?
That one is not that bad. Mine was much worse. One side had thinned considerably. I did replace it myself with a stainless steel one and it turned out to not be a huge job. The hardest part was actually getting it to break free. I had to put a come-along on it to get it out after grinding all the fi...

Re: Cutlass bearing CD 36
What do you know about the hidden hose clamps? I have heard there are clamps that you can't see. Is this true? I appreciate your help Thanks

Cutlass bearing CD 36
I need to replace my Cutlass bearing on my CD 36 this fall. Can anyone tell me what I'm likely to find in there? I have about 4" of rubber hose coming out of the back of the bilge with the stuffing box on the end. There is about an inch of shaft before the coupling. Any drawings or pictures wou...
