Transducer issue?

Does anyone know how to test the transducer linked to the Datamarine depth sounder? I had the depth sounder rebuilt a few years ago but I still dont get a depth reading on the LCD and I suspect the problem is the transducer. Is there a way to check if the cable between the depth sounder and the tran...

Re: Lock Down Books?

For lovers of history I would recommend "In the Eye of the Hurricane" by Nathan Philbrick. It's about the battles of Chesapeake and Yorktown during the revolutionary war. You'll come away with an appreciation for the power of the British Navy and how it was a critical component of England'...

Re: Will We Be Sailing or Not This Season?

In New York the governor has declared the "use of boat launches and marinas for recreational vessels is not considered essential." So I assume most LI marinas will be shut down until the order is lifted. I might just keep Spartina on the hard this sailing season and do some long needed mai...

Raymond,
I like your poem. It's a good one to remind me that sailing season is just around the corner.

Gunk in the diesel tank

I was topping up the diesel fuel tank on Spartina and didn't check the storage container that had the diesel fuel. When I looked into the container I saw a bunch of crud at the bottom which may have gone into the diesel tank. I can easily pump out the diesel tank but was wondering if I can filter th...

Re: Seacocks on a 1977 CD 28

Dear Green, I have a later model CD28 but don't think they differ much. The is an owner's manual that you can download on this site, http://www.capedory.org/cdsoalook-groupsNpubs.html#onlinemanuals Here is the layout for seacocks on my CD28 (looking from cockpit to bow). 2 seacocks in cockpit locker...

Re: Fall Sailing is Right Around the Corner

Agree with all that Sunday was blast. We headed out into the LI Sound around 4 pm with the wind from the Northeat at around 18 mph gusting to 23 mph. Anticipating strong winds we put a reef in at the mooring but reading another post I think we should of pulled in the jib as well to about 60%. By tha...

Re: 2019 CDSOA ANNUAL GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

Looking forward to it and Boston is a great choice. I just finished ready "the British are Coming" by Rick Atkinson about the first two years of the American Revolution. It's got some great writing about the costal geography of Boston harbor and the challenges it presented to Britain and t...

Transducer problems

Transducer problems? Two years ago I had my CD28's original Datamarine depth sounder (S-2000DL) rebuilt by DMI. When I reinstalled it, it would still would not register any depth and keeps returning error messages. I assume I have a problem with the transducer since the main unit has been checked ou...

Re: Prop size

Gordon,
I tend to cruise at 5 and 5 1/2 knots under power because of currents. Of course a bit higher if the current is with me. As you know the hull speed for the 28 is around 6 knots.

Re: Prop size

Gordon, I have a 28 with a 2gm20F and use a 14/12-2 blade prop and do 5 knots at 3,000 rpm without any smoke or engine squat. When I repowered a few years ago I tried a 14/14 that would cause the engine to smoke at 3000 so I had it re pitched to 12 and it now runs smoke free. I am also glad you save...

Hi Cathy,
I would be interested, and this time may actually show up (lol). Unless there is a northly wind, it's an easy sail out of Port Jefferson harbor.

Re: CD27 - Winterizing, what did I miss?

Winterizing Seems like you are in good shape. Here are some other things that should be done in preparation of a winter haulout: Change the oil & filter (but might be hard to pump out if not warm). Top up diesel tank and add stabilizer & biocide to kill bacteria. Close all seacocks except th...
