Re: CD 14 nearing completion
I'm a big fan of the Seasprite 23. There's one in my neighborhood that hasn't seen water in a couple of years. Keeping an eye on that one. I'll take a picture of the lower rudder fitting this weekend and post it. It looks to be a one-off but since that bridle is also so special that maybe CD had it ...

CD 14 nearing completion
Haven't been on the board in a while but been busy restoring my CD 14. Purchased in August 2013, the rails were falling off and the transom core was rotted. No choice but to completely refurbish her. Still more finish work to do. Planning for a late spring launch. Note the picture of Andrew Vavoloti...

Re: Wanted CD 14 sail
I would think it could slide fore or aft but maybe the shape of the hull prevents that? I've been working on mine for a year and a half and I don't remember if I took the seat board out before or after i removed the rails. I had to do extensive fiberglass work in cutting out the rear seat to replace...

Re: Wanted CD 14 sail
Another forum member recommended Jim @ Sailor's Choice in Amityville, NY.
He recently made one for me. Finishing up the restoration on my 14. Hope to splash late spring.

Re: looking at used CD 25--need advice
I agree with Neil. You should have no problem finding a CD 25 in sail-away condition for less than $5,000. Agreed. And you never mentioned anything about the deck. Did you "walk it"? It should feel firm and without springiness as you walk. Then... if it does, walk away........... Or, if t...

Re: Yamaha 6hp long shaft in Cape Dory 25?
Kind of an indirect YES. I owned an Allied Greenwich 24 a few years ago that came with an 8HP long-shaft 4-stroke Yamaha. The Greenwich became the CD25 when CD purchased and then modified the molds. The Yamaha fit fine but I quickly sold it for a much smaller, lighter engine. Less is more. You can d...

Re: CD 14 Questions from a new member
Keith, I too recently acquired a CD14. I have a post halfway down the page (edit: now off the page) looking for some help that's gone unanswered. I'm afraid there isn't much info to be had about this boat. I'm hoping my years of small-boat experience will get the answers first hand as I tackle the p...

Re: CD-10 original "SPOON OARS:" Does anybody have images?
Just guessing, that although you see mention of spoon oars in the literature it could have been at the discretion of the selling dealer and how much the boat sold for. I also agree on the choice of Shaw & Tenney. I have a pair that I row my Sumpwams Skiff with. (14' Whitehall design) Delightful!...

Cape Dory 14 restoration help
Just acquired hull # 525. The best part of the boat is the nice original white gelcoat and the fact that it is complete. It has needs though, the rub-rails are falling off, and the sail is trash but that's all easily replaced. I would like to know if the bottom of the mast originally had a plastic c...

Tiller head
When reinstalling the tiller head on my Typhoon WE should the tiller shaft be raised to take pressure off the bottom shoe or just left in position? (there is slight up and down movement) I took the head off to remove the teak escutcheon for refinishing. My thought is it should be off the bottom and ...

The aluminum piece is missing so I don't have a picture of it. This bridges the transition from the flat taffrail that John refers to, to the fiberglass transom. It's just a filler that follows the curve of the transom top. My boat is a '74. It's a standard piece no doubt missing from many boats. Pe...

Yes it probably is brass. It's old stock that has darkened. I can bend it a bit over a sawhorse so starting from the middle and working out should work. It is not predrilled so that sounds like it is a plus. The old screw holes have been filled but I can see the positioning not that they have to be ...
