Matt, I scrubbed the area with a degreaser then went over the old non-skid with 80 grit on my DA orbital sander. I just hit the top of the surface as the kiwi stuff is thick like yogurt so it fills in the basket weave, no need to sand smooth. I taped the edge, smooth gel coat with blue tape and remo...

Kiwi Magic
I just recently used this product and am pleased. It does a nice job of covering the old basket weave non-skid. I did have an initial failure on a test patch due to low night time temperatures. Make sure you have a 24 hour period of 50's, dry and little wind.
Cheers

TIG Rod
Another way to secure open turnbuckles is with a piece of appropriately sized stainless or bronze TIG welding rod. The rod is bent in a "C" shape with the open ends going thru both rod holes then the ends are bent over out of the way. This is an idea from local rigger Brian Toss. I'm hopin...

Zinc Replacement
In addition to the prop nut zinc there is remnants of a zinc attached to one of the bronze thru bolts attaching the lower rudder plate/shoe to the keel on my CD27. Hard to say how large this lower zinc was since hardly any of it is left. Is this lower zinc common? Does anyone else have one? Seems mo...

Powder Coat Spars
I've decided to powder coat my spars. The previous owners had added 7 cheek blocks and 5 cleats that I have cleaned up. I fitted a 1" track for reefing blocks and filled the extranious holes with aluminum screws cut and filed smooth. This stiill leaves a telltale patch along with corrosion scar...

Des Moines to Port Townsend
G'day, Just ran my new to me CD27 up Puget Sound the 50 nautical miles to her new home. She has been sitting unused for quite awhile so I was a little nervous about the trip but she performed very well. It took 10 hours and the scenery was spectacular: Olympic Mountains, Mount Ranier, Downtown Seatt...

New to me CD 27
G'day Cape Dory Folk! I just registered to the Board as I purchased Naupaka, a CD 27, hull #21 this weekend. I have been reading the board for some time as a visitor and this board is one of the reasons I decided on a Cape Dory. The information and support you all give one another is refreshing. I h...
