Replacing standing rigging and adding a solent stay
I will be replacing the standing rigging on my CD28. I decided to keep all the wire the same size, upper shrouds and stay 1/4â€

Lee, I have this picture from when I was replacing the core of the cockpit floor. The rudder stock is not in the center of the cockpit. It is offset about an inch to the left (starboard). I don't know if this is common or if there is any significance to it. I've also noticed that if I measure perpen...

recent projects have shifted weight
The boat is out of the water and will remain so until I finish work on some projects. I moved the batteries to the port side, to be under the electrical panel and next to the alternator and starter. To starboard, I installed a new fuel tank next to the lift pump. This made great sense to me at the t...

Lead
I've found a number of lead ingots on the starboard side of my Cape Dory 28. The starboard lazarette was set up to hold three batteries, two of them in a shelf built high on the hull. Under this shelf, there were two 35lb ingots for a total of 70lbs. Judging by the paint, materials, construction and...

I ended up using 3/8" Core-Cell, a closed cell foam. It was easy to sand into a trapezoidal shape. Later I used the same material in replacing the core of the cockpit floor. http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/members/45590-albums1158-picture7407.jpg http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/members/...

I installed a Groco 90-degree full-flow, #316 stainless fuel valve on the pickup tube of my aluminum tank (never allow copper based fittings to come in contact with aluminum). Jamestown Distributors has them as part# GRO-FV590-S. I also picked up a pair of Groco 3-way valves to select between two Ra...

As Todd suggested, it would be nice to keep the thread going and to exchange updates. I will need to remove the toe/rub rail to repair the deck. It appears to have been deformed and cracked on the starboard side, by the pull on the backing plate. I will remove the old shroud padeyes and do my best a...

Chainplates & Rigging
I am in the process of replacing the chain plates on my CD28, following the examples of Fred’s Fenix and David Cruickshank’s Alaina. On the Fenix web site, Fred stated that the lower shrouds carry more load than the upper and he used 1/4 cable (factory was 3/16th). If I change to 1/4, then there...

I am replacing the cylindrical fuel tank from under the port deck to a rectangular tank in the starboard lazaret. I have built a frame that will secure the tank. The frame will be positioned between the main bulkhead and a piece of 3/4â€
