Re: Mast Bolt Frozen & Breeched In Compression Tube
A good, sharp hacksaw could also remove the bolt head? Unfortunately not. By the way, it took hundreds of strikes with a 2lb hammer on an impact driver to remove the screws from the spreader bases. Of the eight screws, only one of the heads broke off. I'm hopeful that I can grab hold of it with vic...

Re: Mast Bolt Frozen & Breeched In Compression Tube
Wow, the suggestion of drilling off the head is brilliant.
I will give that a try if the heat/PB blaster approach fails.
Thanks

Re: Mast Bolt Frozen & Breeched In Compression Tube
The head of the bolt is holding the spreader base in place on the other side of the mast, so I can't see if the hammering is causing any deformation.
If it was not for the head sitting inside the spreader base, then I would just cut off the head of the bolt.

Mast Bolt Frozen & Breeched In Compression Tube
While removing the spreader bases from the mast, I found the bolt frozen to the the compression tube. The tube can only exit the mast on one side, but the bolt head is on the other side (the picture shows the Nyloc nut). I've already tried using PB Blaster to free the bolt from the compression tube....

Re: CD 28 Cutting into Cabin Liner
Here's a picture of the cut that I made in the liner, aft of the main bulkhead.

Re: CD 28 Cutting into Cabin Liner
Hilbert, My steel extends aft of the aft bulkhead where the aft padeye is bolted. I am assuming that there is another rebar hook underneath the cabin liner back there. Is this the case in your boat? That Aft Padeye connection is the one that is hard to get a good look at without cutting. Really I w...

Re: CD 28 Tanks
I also have an older 28 that only had one water tank in the forward compartment. I've often wondered if I could find a way to make use of WaterBricks. These stackable containers come in either 1.6 or 3.5 gallon volumes and can also be used for foods like rice, flour, cereal, etc. One could slap a sp...

Re: CD 28 Cutting into Cabin Liner
Fixing the Boat up. I cut out the part of the cabin liner above the little inspection holes at the hanging locker and head in order to be able to see the "chainplates" better. So far port looks pretty good with very little rust starboard is rusty and I need to wire brush/inspect more. My ...

Not sure I would have posted this under "Cape Dory Eye Candy". Maybe there should be a new category like "Cape Dory Purgatory"? ...started working on the bow plate. After 4-5 hrs I decided to let the yard try Just need to keep chipping away at the fiberglass that is holding it in...

Re: Power Conditioner Thoughts
What is the load that you want to protect? If you can get by with 7 amps or less, then consider using an InterVOLT Heavy Duty 7Amp 12V DC-DC Isolated Voltage Stabilizer for $189. It doesn't require a separate battery and will operate down to 10VDC. 7A continuous load rating. 93% efficiency. High vis...

Re: Bolting Mast To Mast Step
Jean wins the prize on this one. I drilled a hole in Raven's mast for a boom vang bail, just a slight bit higher so I would miss the mast step. It is obviously not there to hold the mast in place because they just barely caught the step. They only messed up by a half inch or so. I would grind away ...

Bolting Mast To Mast Step
When I received my boat, there wasn't a bolt holding the mast to the mast step. Apparently there was at one time, as evidenced by the holes. However, this arrangement must have led to the fracturing of deck step at the rim (see picture below). Any thoughts to the advantages and disadvantages of bolt...
