Re: batteries and solar setup for 24v outboard

I'm starting to make plans and budget for an electric outboard to replace my 4-stroke. The motor I'm looking at, Elco Ep-5, is 24v. Ideally, I'd like to have an electrical system aboard that doesn't require shore power to recharge. Since it's a small boat, I'm thinking of putting in just a pair of ...

Re: Needed CD25 Bow Pulpit

The yard just trashed the bow pulpit launching my 25. A bit of inexperience and the slings slipped. When it hit the bulkhead the pulpit took the damage and at least not the bow. Otherwise I’d be soon sailing another boat. Any available for sale? Thanks John Guilford, CT I have the pulpit from CD25 ...

I have the stern pulpit sitting on my porch. I removed it from my Cape Dory 25 the other day.

CD 25, #622 to be PARTED OUT

Cape Dory #622 came to my possession as a "project boat" in October 2009. Sadly it has been "moored" in my backyard since that time. The inside wooden panels were removed (and stored) in preparation to fully remove the inside paint. The boat arrived without portlights and I did n...

Re: Any Winthrop, MA area yacht club members?

I have been a member of Cottage Park Yacht Club since 2012.

My Cape Dory 25 sadly devolved into a "project boat" (long story).
Many parts if anyone is interested.

I have been focused on sailing my Capri 22.

Re: Torqeedo 1003 Travel

It looks like it’s been awhile since someone talked about the practicality of using a Torqeedo on their heavier CD. I still have the CD26, and sail from a mooring. I understand the recommendation for a 5,300 pound boat is the larger Torqeedo cruise 2.0 with a big battery bank…but A.- I can’t charge...

Re: Considering buying a CD25 - questions on rigging and tra

The Cape Dory 25 design weight is 4000 lbs. The trailer will be at least 1200 lbs. Add the "stuff" that will be put into the Cape Dory AND the vehicle. This must not total greater than the towing capacity of the vehicle. When purchasing mine, I towed my Cape Dory 25 from Lake Erie to NH us...

Re: Solar panel trickle charger for sailboat batteries

First: Size the solar panel for the expected power draw. Don't select a panel that is too small. Second: Use a charge controller sized for the solar panel. If the batteries are connected in parallel, then only one charge controller is needed. If they are usually independent, use two charge controlle...

Re: CD25 Keel rudder Help Pls

The rudder's lower gudgeon is normally fully fiberglassed in and not visible. To see the bronze gudgeon (as seen in your photo), one must grind away the fiberglass. There should not be any additional "weep holes" in the area.

I used New England Rigging (www.nerigging.com) to replace the shrouds and stays on my CD25.
Handed them the old ones and they made the new ones to fit.

Hello and thank you for your note. Ok, good. I feel better. The purpose of me buying this boat is I want to feel more safe in heavier weather. Lake Michigan, where I sail can really give us a wild ride. Sometimes fun and sometimes not. I'm also using it for myself and partner as a little summer hom...

Re: Question on weight for a 1974 CD25 I'm looking to buy...

The Cape Dory 25 weighs 4000 lbs with rigging but not including the outboard and other things one would take along. The 4000 lbs plus is what you need to know for trailering. The metal ballast weighs 1700 lbs. It is located at the bottom of the keel. This is part of the 4000 lbs weight. The ballast...
