Re: 2012 Boston Harbor Islands Regatta?
Registration opened just recently (Tuesday). I got to be the first one to sign up although we will be sailing our Capri 22. The Cape Dory 25 is still waiting for me to complete the renovations. Having one boat that is all ready for the water limits the time available for the other boat that needs &q...

Re: CD-25 (not CD-25D) conversion to inboard motor
The propeller should manage to get in the normal opening since the propeller can be rotated. But it is not a convenient procedure and the Torqeedo should not stay constantly immersed according to the manufacturer. The rear slot extension looks interesting and very doable. But I am still toying with ...

Re: a shocking battery question
For a reference point, I have a 210 amp-hour 24 volt battery bank (four 6 volt GC2 batteries — total of $300 from Sam's Club)) that powers a Torqeedo 2.0 Cruise electric motor. The batteries are from 2008 and have been used on two different boats. They have always been charged using an intelligent c...

I'm not in a hurry. But if the opportunity comes my way...wizard wrote:Well the 27' and the 31 both have stand up headroom, $500.00, that might take some time. You need a distressed seller, not a distressed boat, lol. good luck to you.
Reality will be in the form of a higher price.

Re: 1981 CD 27 on Ebay - 1 day left!
agree, but in this case it looks as tho the potential buyers were not allowed to view the boat prior to buying because it was on private property, according to the previous poster, that would be iffy. Sort of like a boat grabbag. You did well on yours and I am sure you thought out everything you co...

Re: 1981 CD 27 on Ebay - 1 day left!
Good for you, I too have restored 2 Cape Dory's my CD 27' and a CD 31' While I can understand the enjoyment of working on one's boat and having that be a learning experience, there are other areas of restoration that one cannot escape. The price of materials, parts, transportation of getting the bo...

Re: 1981 CD 27 on Ebay - 1 day left!
I purchased one of these eBay boats. I paid $1,250 for a 1978 CD25. I needed to barrier coat the hull (it was all blistered), replace the broken plastic ports with (by choice) opening bronze ports (resizing the port rough-openings), replace the teak toe/rub rails, replaced ALL of the standing and ru...

Re: Using Starboard for new bowsprit?
No. Starboard is not appropriate for a bowsprit. It would snap very quickly under load. Physical Characteristics of "Starboard" (http://www.kingplastic.com/products/all-products/king-starboard-family/king-starboard/) Properties Units ASTM Nominal Values Density g/cc D1505 .96 Tensile Stren...

Seems like a few individuals assume that every boat has to be perfectly restored to be enjoyed.
Nonsense!
Make the boat safe. Enjoy the time on the water. Besides, many of us enjoy the labor of love of a "slow restoration" — and get to sail, too!

Peggy Hall I know is often called the "head queen" or something like that, I assume its a book by her. Ms Hall is The Head Mistress, If you Googled, The Head Queen you might not find something you wish you hadn't. Surprisingly, searching for "head queen" did NOT identify "t...

Re: Raise the Mast (again)
These two videos present an example of raising/lowering a mast on a Catalina 25. The first video shows the action of first lowering then raising a mast. The second one shows the parts involved. Re: Welcome to the new board!
I noticed the new board did not correctly transfer the spelling of our boat (Aignéis --> Gaelic spelling of "Agnes"). Different fonts display less common characters "strangely", or not in a consistent manner which is too bad. After respelling the name, it looks proper now. So peo...

Re: New England Boat Show, Feb 11-19, 2012 - Boston, MA
For the past few years my wife and I have been going to the New England Boat Show both to gain some knowledge and to walk-though the many larger boats. We have noticed when we go the first day, all of the exhibitors are happy to talk to anyone. One year we went on the last day of the show. People we...

Re: Bigger vs. smaller
I would like to go "one size larger" than our CD25 so that I can stand up in the cabin and be comfortable to cruise for several days. I would also like to keep it small enough to be able to trailer it home at the end of the season. Going the other extreme, I have a Laser for those small bo...
