Re: Typhoon Angle of point on a beat

Hi Tim, On a fractional rig found on the Ty, tensioning the backstay results in bending the mast to reduce draft in the mainsail. This will reduce heel and weather helm and "possibly" increase speed. You will find that sailing is very dynamic and has multiple factors. I have also a cunning...

Re: Typhoon Angle of point on a beat

My Typhoon does much better with a 100% -105% #3 jib heading upwind.

Re: Cape Dory Typhoon Weekender sailing question

I have an '83 Ty Wkn and have experienced 4-6' waves / chop resulting from the "BIG" monster motored cruiser wake at the mouth of Monroe Harbor at Chicago - Lake Michigan. I anticipate the waves and head (45deg) into them and always get lots of water over the bow. I do get wet, but I do no...

I use a boom kicker. It's always there and it never gets in the way. :)

Appears that Interlux continues to produce the Cetol product line. I use to product on my Typhoon and hope they continue to make the stuff.

Re: "All Is Lost"

Saw the movie and enjoyed it! I did reflect on what I would do if making a journey similar to what was shown in the movie. If I were to solo, it would be a priority to be legal and have a radar w/alarm to stand watch while I rested. I would reef and bend on a storm jib at the sight of a storm. I wou...

Re: Trailing a Ty

I have a Ty on a Triad trailer. The launch and retrieval is dependent upon the ramp slope, ramp length, and the depth of the water. Not all ramps are created equal and water depth is not always a constant. I recommend checking out the ramp(s) before the launch or retrieval and measure the water dept...

Re: Winches on typhoon

My starboard winch has the same behavior. I believe the cause is the when the farlead is aft (the position for heavy air), the angle of the sheet to the winch is too high and causes the sheet to double over and lock up. This is troublesome when you go to trim after a tack. I plan to install a guide ...

Re: Cleaning Dirty Fenders

Hi Paul,
I use Spray Nine cleaner on about anything dirty on my boat. Spay it on for a minute or two and leave the cleaner do its work.
Good luck,
Jim

Re: Typhoon Outboard Bracket Pad

I used salvaged band saw tire rubber. I placed two thicknesses of rubber between the bracket and the transom board. It's not the most efficient vibration isolator but it has stopped my lazarette lids from resonating with the engine vibrations.

Re: Standing rigging - Ty Weekender

"Rigging Only" is very customer freindly!

Send to them the old stays & shrouds and they will replace with new and to exacting correctness in about a week.

Jim

I have a 3.5hp Yamaha long shaft. It's the right power and it's light - 46lbs.

Re: Cost of a new 1983 Typhoon Weekender?

Thanks Jim,

Your link stated $9500 MRSP as a new boat not including extras. This looks like a good starting position.

Cost of a new 1983 Typhoon Weekender?

The Second Wind is going to a new home port in Indiana this season. The Indiana registration excise tax is based upon the boat's original cost/price when new. Does anyone have an clue as to the new cost of 1983 Ty Wkdr back then?

Best regards,
Jim Trandel
