Re: What should you do next?

If after he next visits his boat it is not in place, if it was me, I would go aboard and change it myself. Some may think this is out of line, but I dont, I consider it my responsibility if I see boats in a marina inproperly tied causing them to rub docks/pilings, to adjust their lines for them. If...

We're supposed to get 16-20, gusts up to 30 tomorrow. Sailplan suggestions or should I sit it out? No offense, but if you're asking this question you should probably sit it out. Everyone has thier own valid opinion, but as a rule, I always reef for the gusts if they are fairly frequent. In this cas...

Re: Overpowered

3) In 15 knots, especially with a (fuller) older sail, I think you would be better off with at least one reef in the main. If your "genny" is truly a 110, then I would call that a "working jib" and think it would be good for those conditions. I was out last week in 12-15 knots, ...

I'm curious

Now I'm curious.... what IS the loading?

Also, does it have reference to the loading on a 28 footer? :)

There is a website for cape dory power yachts at www.capedory28.info

They have some threads in their forum on repowering.

This site has mainly sailboat owners so you might not find people experienced with the power yachts here.

Re: Fakes don't work

Dave, fake owls never work. You've heard of laughing gulls? Guess what they're laughing at. Even little swallows scoff at fake owls and build nests on top of them: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-471681/Fake-bird-scaring-owl-home-family-swallows.html Cheers, John V. Bummer. Thanks for the i...

If you want something a wee bit larger, there's a person in my marina selling a CD25 for $3300 (or probably less if you make an offer). It's in Melbourne, Florida.

I wonder if running a statue of an owl up the halyard would help? Maybe install a hook in it's head or something and haul it all the way up with a downhaul fixed to the bottom so as to secure it from swinging and to aid in lowering it.

I'm not sure about the weather in Ontario, however here in Florida we had a tropical storm come through a year or two ago with sustained 50-60kt winds and several boats with roller furlers lost thier head sails because the wind eventually unfurled them and they were torn to shreds. These boats were ...

I got a tip when I had that problem...

I had the same problem. One day I noticed my engine running very hot so I had to sail back into my marina slip. Turned out the transmission housing was plugged up as you are describing. What I did was remove the raw water inlet hose ( the one that goes to the transmission) from the strainer, the out...

Haven't caught the cleats too often, but I've caught my forward hatch a couple of times even though it's always closed when sailing.

I also caught my girlfriend once who was sunning on the foredeck. Luckily the wind was light that day. Needless to say she did not find it amusing.

Re: Main trim

Thanks for the thoughts on Main trim...I wish it were that simple! This is not a subtle tug on the tiller, when I say "weather helm", rather this is a real struggle when the wind picks up. I have a new main, and trim makes no significant impact (unless of course one lets the main out so f...

Depends

I haven't sailed a typhoon, but I would think it probably depends on the size and weight of the company. If it were me and five NFL cheerleaders I would think it was just fine for even a couple of days even if a little cramped. If it were me and five of my fat, beer drinking buddies I'd feel like ju...
