John, I was thinking about the fact that CDSOA couldn't put them on the web site unless they had either owned the copyrights to the docs, or been given license to post the docs by the heirs. The best thing that could be done with those documents is that they be made readily available to CD (and othe...

Copyright?
Does anybody know whether the copyrights to the drawings convey with them, or if the sale is only for the physical drawings? Just wondering...

Bit of Controversy
That article makes a controversial recommendation: which is isolating your thru-hulls from the grounding/bonding system. They make a good point about stray current-driven corrosion in marinas. But the danger introduced by isolation is flashover in event of a lightning strike. This applies primarily ...

Isolated Engine Electrical System
Jaques, The short answer is probably not much else would happen that isn't happening anyway. Then engine isn't immersed in salt water, so the zincs in the bonding system aren't doing much to protect it. In theory, a raw water cooled engine could have a complete circuit through saltwater with the zin...

Charles Industries Charger
I've also had good luck with my Charles Industries charger, a 30A, 2000-series unit. Prices are all over the map for that unit; do some comparison shopping. The best price I found was Hodges Marine, but you might be able to find it for even less with more Googling.

Yes, the zinc is still necessary, possibly more than one (prop zinc plus hull zinc elsewhere). Just because all the metals are connected doesn't mean corrosion stops. Unless all the metallurgy (and crystallography, for that matter) of each fitting is absolutely identical (read: not possible), someth...

Sealing Coring for Vent
I did a multi-step process. First, I brushed plain epoxy with slow hardener onto the fiberglass (especially to seal the fiber ends) and balsa, and let it soak in and gel up a bit. I then mixed up some more epoxy with a roughly 50/50 mix of West 403 and 404 to a peanut butter consistency, filled the ...

OpenCPN
Well, I downloaded the source code for OpenCPN, compiled it under Fedora Core 11, downloaded a few local charts from NOAA, and ran the app. I was impressed, although the interface takes a bit getting used to. Now I need to set up a virtual NMEA0183 data source to try it in GPS mode. BTW, for those t...

Open Source Software for Reading Chart Files
For those who don't want to run XP, there appears to be several open source (i.e. hobbyist-generated freeware) software packages out there for reading .bsb format chart files. One is here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/opencpn/files/ I haven't tried installing this or any of the other open source ...

Thanks for the information. I'm not concerned with overhead clearance on primary roads, but the secondary road to my house has some low phone and fiber optic lines that corss over in several spots, as well as some low-hanging trees that have me concerned. One other concern is that there is no way to...

CD 30 Dimensions for Transport
Does anyone on the board have the number handy for the height on a CD30 from the bottom of the keel to the highest point on the boat when the mast is unstepped? I'm trying to figure out whether I can have the boat trucked to my driveway for storage and work.
