great work Mike

Mike - I hope you keep that site up. Your paintings are stunning, evocative of a great deal, and the variety of your impressionist styles is really delightful.

I see echoes of JMW Turner and Monet in there from time to time :)

Thanks very much for sharing.

Carter of the Sailing Vessel "MARY ELLEN" clearly has his cortical neurons in such astounding synchrony these days that he's inspired this little frippery: Into the chop sprints our Mary Ellen, With nary a drop from her cockpit a-bailin'; With his doigt etendu sur le tiller, Holding her tr...

Dimly burns the bulb
which illuminates the corridors
of my mind,
Dried and squoze out,
as a used lemon rind.

And how are things at your end? Watcha smokin', Dude?

ham radio aboard

hi there Ken, and Johnny, On my older boats I used to use an endfed wire that I would haul up with the spinnaker halyard - at anchor or in port - but of course with a permanent installation, went to an insulated backstay, fed by an Icom AH-4 autotuner securely mounted in the lazarette, with ground s...

Same on my CD27 - which was #4 from 1977. Self tapping screws in evidence, not through bolts.

Next time one of us is down at Robin Hood, would be interesting to ask Andy V. about this

Speaking as a past CD owner (CD27 #4), I decided to keep up my membership in CDSOA precisely because this board is such an extraordinary resource. The other day at the boatyard I heard a complete stranger - not even a CD owner - say he considered the CD board the best sailing resource on the interne...

skittering around uncontrollably?!

Love it Carter, the idea of that drill walking all over the nice aluminum sure is sumtin' But seriously, DON'T use self tapping sheet metal screws whatever you do! Use SS machine screws, and above all, be sure to use a thread tap with the right thread pitch to pilot the hole and match it to t...

greed vs. big waves

Of course greed is the motivating factor! That a lawsuit like this can take root is an awful reflection on our society - one where a woman can sue McDonalds and win megabucks because her coffee was too hot!!!! - and the ensuing climate resulting in the shocker that was in the news recently about the...

curious -

I wonder Carter, if this occured with the lower wattage bulb as well? Might be hard to tell if something happened to the wiring over the winter - drawing more current with the higher wattage steaming light could THEORETICALLY have overloaded the wiring - perhaps causing a partial short to the other ...

Free Loran C Navigator

I have an Apelco DXL-6100 Loran Navigator almost new in box - no manual however. If anyone would like it as a spare or to play with, I'll be glad to give it away. Pick up here in CT, or just $10.00 for shipping.
Thanks!

FS ZODIAC 8'6" INFLATABLE

Hi, I have a very nice Zodiac roll-up inflatable (with the slats type bottom) in very good condition. It's 8'6", current new CT registration valid until April '06, very little use. Year of manufacture 2000. Last year I bought the inflatable thwart for it (never used). Reason for selling: needed...
