Re: Typhoon Daysailer Mast Stepping

Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on the perspective, I do not have this 'lifting-of-mast' issue with my daysailer, and I step the mast alone without gin pole, hoist, tree, or other such contraptions. The orginal owner, from whom I purchased the boat, cut a slot out of the cuddy deck aft of t...

Re: 25D head modification for you wood workers

Very nice modification that I may put on my list of things to do. I think that since it is inside and not exposed to anything more than showers most any kind of wood would be fine. Thanks for sharing.

Typhoon purchase

Sea Hunt: Buy the boat. Buy a trailer. Drive it yourself to your destination. Thereafter you have a means of transporting the boat when you need to take her home for repairs, for storage, or to move out of storm's way. My 20 year old daughter has driven my 1/2 ton p.u. with Typhoon in tow cross coun...

Witness' Companionway Steps

Since Witness has been brought into this discussion by Bar..in OK, and Seaht in FL, I will reply on her behalf. Yes, She has steps that are built into the engine cover. Photos also show the engine top cover that has been hinged and the storage box below. This was somewhat patterned after the OK 25-D...

Tohatsu

My Weekender sports a Tohatsu 5hp. Never liked the looks of an outboard on a sailboat, but like less to need power and not have it. I tilt it up when sailing, and think its effect on sailing performance is negligable. It does lift itself up if reversed strongly, but haven't ever thought it was about...

It's a trade-off. Come July those in Miami will be seeking shelter from the heat, while those in Maine will be enjoying lobster and great sailing. And the more fortunate will enjoy sailing both.

Typhoon Drifter and spinnaker

I purchased a Daysailor that came with excellent 1.5 oz Hood drifter, and spinnaker. I can use either one on the Daysailor or on my Weekender, but to use on Weekender I will have to fix block at masthead since the Weekender is fractional rig, and Daysailor is masthead rigged. Don't need both sails a...

My 1973 Typhoon Weekender has the raised step or tower where the rudder post passes through the cockpit sole, but on my '77 Weekender the post passes through level with the sole, except for the 1" thick teak collar.

Stepping Mast/Launching Typhoon

The ability to singlehandedly step the mast of a Typhoon is relative to one's strength and agility. Rigging a block at the foredeck and running a line from the mast, through the block, and back to where you can pull on it as you lift the mast is helpful. I can step and unstep the mast alone, but wou...
