Re: CD27 re-power to Beta

I engineered the adaptive stringers for the Beta 20/16/14 to fit in the CD 30 that had the Volvo MD7A/walters v-drive originally installed. I made the first set for my own repower to the Beta 20 in my CD-30. I sold a number of stringers to folks that were repowering their 30's with the Beta. Lately ...

Re: Knurled Knobs for Beta Water Pump Cover

Thanks for the tip. The original "Speed Seal" group is no longer in business. Their one page web site says their patents etc. for USA and UK are up for sale.
McMaster Carr is a great place for hard to find items.
Great tip!
Cheers

Re: Brion Toss Crossed the Bar

I was fortunate to have met Brian when he came down to Portland to talk rigging essentials. He tuned the rig on "Milagro" as I hovered over his shoulder, watched and asked questions which he answered with grace, knowledge and patience. Many questions were answered about the running rigging...

Re: Anderson 12 ST for 25D or 27

I replaced all winch's with Andersen's several years ago when I was in a different tax bracket ;). 40st for the head sails 12st two speed for main halyard and 10s for the rest. could not be happier with their performance. expensive but well worth it. maintenance is easy.
cheers.

Re: Repower CD28-Beta 14 or Beta 16

Actually I repowered with the Beta 20. I re-fit a Balmar 100 amp. alt on it with a 3K serpentine belt and pulleys which when in full swing drops the HP to around 16. (house bank is 630 amps) I have rarely had the engine at full RPM, (3600) only a few times while crossing the Columbia Bar have I had ...

Re: Replacing bilge pump

The main caveat with "water witch" bilge pump switch is that terminals must be kept very clean in order for them to make the common wire connection when terminals are in contact with water. I had a small (about a cup) oil spill into the bilge when changing oil a couple years ago and even t...

Re: Folding prop for a Cape Dory 36

I would check out the (German engineering at its best) " Variprop". I have a 4 blade on my CD30. Outstanding performance!
Designed with small hub to fit in apertures.

Re: CD30 Cutter pinrails

Sam, I have a pair that I made several years ago out of teak, pins as well. I used them briefly then decided that access around the lowers was more important.
I'll take some photos and post if you are interested in them.
Send me a PM after seeing photos.

Re: Prop size

Gordon, some important key data to determine prop size: 1. displacement of vessel 2. LWL of vessel 3. Gear ratio of transmission 4. Horsepower rating of engine 5. Engine RPM rating (max rpms) 6. and on our boats Aperture size The 15x12 and 16x8 seem to me way oversized. If the transmission is a 2.21...

Re: Replacing cabin sole

If the head sink drain is not tied into sea cock, then it drains into the bilge. I replaced my rotted sole a few years back due to water damage and placing a 20 gal. fuel tank in part of the bilge area. I discovered that the hose from head sink had coiled back to it's circular packing shape and spew...

Heh There! Re: Propane tank installations

On the 30 there is even less room for tanks. Made this with Baltic birch ribs and 1/8" Baltic birch ply. Sealed with epoxy inside and out. 2 part Awlgrip paint. Two 10lb. fiberglass tanks fit with regulator and solenoid fit inside. The fiberglass tanks are extremely light and see thru. Got the ...
