Re: Correct Prop Pitch?
... I fitted a three bladed feathering prop on a new Beta 14 in my CD 27. The engine redline is 3,600 rpm. I can only manage 3,200- so the prop is theoretically over pitched. After some conversations with the mfg, Featherstream, I decided to leave well enough alone. I typically cruise at 2,000 -2,2...

Re: Orion sailing under asymmetric spinnaker
When I ordered new sails years ago the stated sail areas were; main 221, staysail 107, large yankee 285, totaling 613 square feet. My standard yankee is clearly smaller than the large yankee but I’m not sure of its square footage, perhaps 180 square feet. The main, staysail, and standard yankee the...

Re: Zinc for Cape Dory 25D that has previously been in fresh water
You want to clean that shaft up before you install the zinc. I use 1200 wet dry sand paper then install the zinc. Make sure you apply Tef-Gel or other anti seize coating to the threads of the bolts that tighten the zinc.

Yes. Absolutely must put a zinc on that shaft. Looks like enough room from the photo. There are lots of different styles. Looks like the style I use might fit.

Re: Orion sailing under asymmetric spinnaker
The I is 41, the P is 35, and the J is 13.5 with total of 724 square feet of sail area. Those dimensions are rig dimensions of course so I don’t know the luff, leach, and foot dimensions of the sail itself. I just checked the specifications on the Doyle invoice. I presumed it was accurate. IMG_0437...

Re: Orion sailing under asymmetric spinnaker
Very nice photo and description Jim. Those are the days we live for. Is that a typo...your asymmetric kite really 725 sf? My 140% tri radial drifter is 616sf and it's huge. My P is 41' and J is almost 18'.
Just curious about that.

Re: Orion tucked away for the winter
Orion was hauled on 10/16 and the first thing I did was rinse the hull from the toerail to the waterline with hull cleaner. This ensures the surface will be clean for a coat of wax in the spring. Next I spent five days sanding the bottom (with the aim of removing this seasons coat of antifouling so...

Re: Oxidation on Seacock
It’s just naturally occurring verdigris which will form upon exposure to air or seawater. You may want to check your hose for a slight leak or it may just be condensation forming and following the hose down to the seacock. I see no issue to be concerned about in this photo. If verdigris is good eno...

Re: Staysail Forestay Quick Release Suggestions
Dear All, Getting tired of dealing with the headsail getting caught up with the staysail when tacking a lot and come to the conclusion I need to be able to quickly release the staysail forestay to avoid the constant catching of the head sail on the staysail. Love the staysail sail when on long runs...

Re: repowering cd 28
I can't help you with the Volvo overheating as others have more time sorting that issue out than I do. But I'll share my perspective on engine size. But first, what is your rational for wanting the biggest engine you can fit into your boat? You don't have to answer that but I recommend you are reall...
