Working with Rig-Rite

Five years ago, I needed a new Kenyon mast section that RR showed they had on-line. They were said to have bought the Kenyon company's tooling and blanks at Kenyon's closing-down. I spoke with them about the section, and there was confirmation that the piece was available. After taking time and thin...

Typhoon cover

Last year was the 1st year I had to cover a Typhoon. The boat has lifelines so I bought a "heavy duty" blue tarp to drape over. I couldn't get lines on it quick enough and I eventually just gave up. It would have been tragic to not erect a "ridge" with supports. The owner of the ...

LI Sound to Portsmouth

I have been up and back, Chesp. to Maine, a few times and up and back to Cape Ann many more times. Like a preceding comment said, "Take an Eldridge". Don't try to understand it just-in-time, read ahead. Do time the East River transit and also the Sound's E. end, whether at Fisher's Island ...

Bermuda

Bermuda is not gonna be "the cheap seats"...because it is an island. They just don't make a lot there other than financial transactions and onions. They've had to make do and that they have. Water was long collected from any kind of rain and stored ...yet they likely have big r.o. operatio...

Bermuda

Some talk about the passage being a "a starbord tack, one winch" ride. I've known nothing of that ! Bermuda for me is the most lushly planted and landscaped site on the planet. It is beautiful and it is very civilized ! This will bring me back: my wallet was stolen while I was asleep in a ...

By the balls, I agree !

I broke the mast of non-CD boat a few years ago. It was a tapered Kenyon spar that had been badly twisted when the backstay got tangled in the lift. I drove the trailered boat away from the lift without seeing the tangle. So, with heart in hand, I called Rig Rite because they showed the VERY section...

Typhoon molds

The idea of building a new Typhoon is not far-fetched except that it is speculative. There is an operation called "Ensign Spars" in Dunedin, FL that is currently building the Alberg Ensign --- new. The base boat has been just a bit under $40,000. Singer James Taylor recently bought one and...

Answer to my question about the molds

Merv Hammatt of Compass has just written me that "the Typhoon molds were destroyed... when I couldn't give them away".

Typhoon Weekender molds

Does anyone know what happened to the molds for the Weekender ?

The history part of this site shows that a model builder (Compass) had/has them, but they do not reply.

I also called Spartan Marine...to no avail.

Thanks a lot for any leads !
