Re: DeLorme InReach Satellite Tracking device
I have recent experience with DeLorme, Spot and EPURB. My friend has the DeLorme and was able to send me a message on a recent Gulf crossing. One thing that was interesting was even though I got the message it show him being off the coast of Africa. I have owned a Spot for several years. It works go...

Re: Port and Starboard nomenclature
It is red right returning except on the ICW where red is on the major land mass side. Also just for the heck of it I will mention that ICW markers have yellow reflective squares or triangles on them to id them as ICW markers.

Re: External Chain Plates
My bad. That last pics tells a different story as far as the crazing goes. On the CD31 the chain plate does not extend down the side like that. I still like to original design and as I said earlier provided the chain plates were not rusted out.

Re: External Chain Plates
First let me say that it is not my point to prove someone wrong at any cost so take this as you may. Second, if I had rotten mild steal in my boats chain plates I might go to externals if it is was too difficult to go back to original but I would consider that I settled for the second best choice. A...

Re: External Chain Plates
I would have to disagree with those who think traditional chain plates are better then the typical Cape Dory system. Except for the problems associated with mild steal I think the set up is the cats meow. The problem with the traditional set up is that as loads shift so does the angle that the load ...

Re: low oil light
TEE into the sending unit and install a mechanical gauge that you can mount anywhere. It does not have to be where you can see it all of the time if your idiot light still functions just where you can take a gander when you are concerned. Don't mount it where there is viberation. Maybe out of the wa...

Re: Overboard pump out
Dana,
Do you have a valve prior to the pump to isolate the pump when pumping out at a pump station, or only at the Y in the discharge? I will most lilely do mine the same way. Also the macreator pumps that I see have a one inch discharge. Does yours?

Yacht Club activities
I have a question for my Cape Dory friends. I might be my Yacht Clubs Commodore next year and am looking for ideas to make the year exciting for the membership. We are a club that has been around for 40 years and have been active in racing cruising and socializing. My wife and I use to be in a motor...

Did you make it to South Florida? My CD31 is in Cape Coral where we hope to keep it for the time being.

Re: Floating hams--info needed
I have the ICOM M710 on my sailboat and the ICOM 735 on my trawler. Both can work on Ham or marine. I like the 735 more then the newer M710 because it gets to be a pain in the ass moving to different frequencies one the M710. They have to be programmed in. I would highly recommend to everyone going ...

Overboard pump out
My CD31 did not come with the optional overboard pump for the holding tank. I want to install one but wanted to see if anyone had any advise before I start. It looks like Cape Dory used a manual bilge pump for this application. Is that all the pump is? I guess I need to install another seacock below...

Blige pump bleeds back
I have two bilge pumps and both bleed back into the bilge. The rule 1500 has a check valve that I replaced thinking it would fix the problem but it did not. I then bought a whale 650 and it does the same thing. The thru hull is way in the back of the boat so what bleeds back into the bige is enough ...
