Re: Video from my last crossing

They were rescued from the boat 3 day prior. I had waited in port for a blow to move through so I assume they were caught in it. I did contact the person listed as the owner who said he sold the boat to a couple who were going to sail it from Houston home to New Orleans? He said they left with littl...

Installing water maker

I just purchased a used Pur Powersuvivor 35 water maker for my CD31. Any thoughts on installing it and plumbing the lines?

Re: SPOT Satellite Communicator

Fun! I never considered my spot to be a toy. And except for checking in on the maritime net it is the only way for me to let people back home know I am ok. They are all aware that it may or may not work properly and yes it has failed to work especially during bad weather. My policy has always been t...

Re: SPOT Satellite Communicator

We got caught in a blow while making a delivery last December. Our EPURB got wet and went off for a short period of time. (it was stowed properly) The coast Guard used information from our Spot messages sent to people to help pin point us.

Re: S/V Kerry Ann

I had a interesting 8 day solo across the Gulf of Mexico. Lost the auto pilot early on and transmission 165 miles off the coast of Texas. Found an abandoned sailboat along the way. Thanks to the HF radio I was able to report it. Also un expectedly sailed past a friend from Corpus Christi sailing sol...

Re: Towing a Dinghy

I have a portland Pudgy that I have towed across the Gulf of Mexico. It tows good. It is also a easy to get in and out of. I would say I might loose 1/2 a knott or less when towing.

Re: Treating Grundens foul weather gear

Wow! This is my first cocky response to a post on the Cape Dory site since I joined it many years ago. If you were to look at their web site you would learn that they are the real stuf. As a matter of fact it was people on this board that suggested Grundens foul weather gear. I also did not say they...

Re: safety colors

Thanks, Robert. That is just what I was looking for. I keep a strobe, Spot, etc. on my vest and in my foul weather gear. But batteries go bad and things happen so the more I can do to make me easier to spot the better. Keeping a yellow vest in the pocket of my foul weather coat won't take up much sp...

Treating Grundens foul weather gear

Do any of you treat your foul weather gear to keep it water proof? If so what do you use? I have the Grunden Weather Boss gear. I might be doing a delivery in a week or so and the thought of being cold and wet for days on end does not sound fun. Also any other advice you have as far as staying warm ...

safety colors

A local store has safety vest like people working along the side of the road wear. They are yellow or orange. I would like to buy one to keep in the pocket of my black foul weather gear....just in case. Has anyone read any reports where one is easier seen then the other?

Re: Below-deck autopilot installation

I too plan to install the X10 auto pilot. I have a hydraulic drive from a failed attempt to install a used cetrek system and Raymarine said there will be no problem using it. Russell is you system ruder feedback less? If so are you happy with it? As far as Sea Talk is concerned from what I read I ca...

Cabin heater for while underway

Can anyone recommend a portable heater that I can use while underway? I need to bring my boat across the gulf soon and the thought of not having a heater bothers me. Can a generic portable heater be used safely? I live in South Texas and may never need it again.

Thanks
Kevin
