Dwyer Mast

I had my first experience with Dwyer last week - what a great organization. I am restoring a non-CD and needed some parts - they had exactly what I needed and were easy to work with. I remember reading some concern on this forum regarding the viability of Dwyer once they became part of Zim. Have no ...

Re: Bedding compound on an '83 Typhoon

The coamings on my Typhoon were bedded with similar goop, I assumed that it was from the factory. After two days of effort i removed my already badly split coamings in pieces.

Re: Trailers and Boats

Given where you live, I would suggest a bullseye or doughdish. There is a lot of wind for a cat boat with one big sail.

Re: Typhoon chainplates

I have a 1984 Ty and the underside of my chainplates looked the same. There is some mention that the later CD used Al backing plates. When I last rebedded, I replaced the bolts with some known quality bolts from McMaster Carr and added a 6" x 2" x 0.25" SS backing plate. I would be mo...

Re: Replacement Coamings

Chris, Call St. Angelo hardwood in Tiverton (401-624-3900) before you make a decision - they are right off 24. They have mountains of teak, mahogany and most other exotic woods. When I first bought my Ty DS the coamings were covered in a really bad varnish job which I wanted to remove. They had been...

Re: Waiting CD22

It looks great. I have owned a bunch of boats and the only one that I regret selling was a CD 22 - one of the ones with a big ugly outboard hanging off the back.

Re: Waiting CD22

Is the outboard installed in the lazarette? I think that the 22 is the best looking CD, spoiled only by a big ugly outboard hanging off the stern. Cutting out the lazarette always seemed like a good idea. I remember that someone posted such a modification a few years ago.

Re: Typhoon daysailer

This is a deal. If I didn't already have one, I would drive down to Rye and pick it up.

Re: Cape Dory 25

I sailed by this morning - a nice looking boat. Didn't you just buy this and sail it up from CT?

Re: Dwyer Mast Closing

This might be old news, but Dwyer has been purchased and is still in business, although now in RI rather than CT. I was told that while RigRite was interested, they are not the new owner. Their intent is to carry on the Dwyer tradition and service.

CD 22 in Local Paper

This was in today's local paper:

Cape Dory 22, 1984
6hp Tohatsu with low hours

$6,500

+1 508 748 1569

I have no knowledge or connection with this boat, but it seems like a deal.

Re: Weather boot for Typhoon day sailer

I don't understand the purpose of sealing around the mast . I have a boom tent that wraps the mast and keeps 95% of the water out of the cockpit. Several years ago I had a Bullseye which has a similar keel stepped mast and cuddy. Bullseye's commonly used putty between the mast and the cuddy, but its...
