While I don't have your issue with the motor, for this season I plan to fill the water tank. Like you, I don't need the water, as I use bottled water, but I've read many posts that state the CD25s handle better with some weight forward.

Re: 1975 CD25 replacement portlights
Hey, Bob, Eventually I plan to replace Cassandra's, which are the same as yours. There is an article on Don Casey's website (I think I saw it there) about refitting using a different size port. Basically, it entails filling the hole and cutting it to size and mounting the new ones. There are a coupl...

Re: Hammock??
Nice idea! My son is in an outdoor adventure club at school. They've all started carrying ENO hammocks, which are ultra-light parachute cloth and wrap you up like a cocoon. He bought a two-person unit and the webbing kit to wrap around just about anything. He says the ENO is super comfortable. All t...

Re: Outboard for CD25
You have good point, Bill, on current. I've don't have that issue, as I'm on a lake, though it's really a dammed up river, but I've pushed against the wind without problem. Others haven't had issue with the SailPro 6 that I've heard, perhaps as the thrust prop really adds to the realized power. But ...

Re: Outboard for CD25
Nigel, I raise the cover to start anyway and with old motor it wouldn't run without staying raised. However, the Tohatsu will run with the cover down but the operating tiller/throttle sticks out a bit so the cover doesn't close, which as mentioned is the way it is for me now anyway. The tiller/throt...

Re: Outboard for CD25
As mentioned, there are a lot of post re: motors for the 25. Last year, I replaced Cassandra's original evinrude with a Tohatsu SailPro. It has a long shaft with an appropriate prop (thrust), and alternator for charging batteries. I did not cut down the motor mount as many have done to accommodate t...

It looks complicated. Here's a link to some information on mooring in the med.

Re: What to take on my first cruise? BABY WIPES!
While Steve mentions wet wipes, we use unscented baby wipes. We started using them when ouron kids were little, a long time ago, and stuck with them as they're so useful. We buy them by the big box that has a few large bags. While driving over the road, I use them when no shower is available. Unlike...

The captain made it look sooooo easy, too. I can't imagine driving a semi off the ramp. Nice video, thanks for posting.
Hope the weather improves.

Re: CD 25 bulkhead structure?
While Cassandra's (1977 CD25) bulkheads seem only to need a light sand and varnish, are they still structurally sound? How do I know?

Re: Water Tanks
During some winter research, I looked at some options to replace Cassandra's (cd25) original tank. While it's not bad, it's too small for my future plans. I liked the bladder tank that's available that would hold 30 gallons, fitting nicely in the same space the original takes up. The manufacturer's ...

Re: prop vs. sailboat prop
When I replaced my ancient evinrude with a Tohatsu Sailpro last fall, the hp remained the same but the performance I received is incredibly better. The difference is the additional thrust provided by the prop. It's all in the pitch of the prop blades. As I understand it, a high thrust prop, like the...

Re: Cape Dory 25 Engine Cover / Solar Panel platform
Adam, I think the "z" mounting will provide air space beneath the panel for those short runs with motor, should heat be a concern to you. If not, you add spacers. My very small panel is directly mounted on the lid, done by a previous owner many years ago. It's worked well to maintain charg...

Re: 4 Stroke for a CD25
One of the local boat shops did remote a SailPro for a customer. It worked quite well, I am told. It's pricey though. I wouldn't cut a hole in the hatch, either. The SailPro tiller will fold back nicely. I don't like the idea of a motor with a built-in tank. As for the mounting bolts: The bracket on...
