Re: Cape Dory 25 Newbie requests your wisdom
Hey. I, too, sail a CD25. Cassandra. The answer to some of your questions may depend upon the type of sailing you're planning. Also, a word of advice: make lots of plans and check the prices at various places, but don't buy until you've had some adventures or misadventures. You'll know more of what ...

Re: Gross Weight of CD25 on trailer
Thanks John. My Ridgeline hauls 5,000 or a bit more okay, but anymore would be pushing it I think.

Gross Weight of CD25 on trailer
Hope all is well.
I'm interested in knowing the gross weight of a CD 25 on a trailer. Also, wondering if there are trailers for rent that would haul a cd 25.
Thanks in advance for any/all information.
Terry

Re: New Halyards; material, etc.
. . .thinking of the following: Main halyard - red Genoa halyard - green . . . Cassandra's (CD25) previous owner replaced the main halyard with a white line with a green spiraling strip. I replace the jib halyard following his lead, using white with red spiral strip. I guess the idea was that the g...

Re: report on furler and sails
Sorry for your troubles. I wasn't sure what halyard wrap was, so looked it up. I found an warning article posted by walden rigging at: http://www.waldenrigging.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/halyardwrappreventions.pdf The article gives some indication of how it occurs, and what to do to rel...

Re: Fitting an outboard to a 1974 CD 25"
Hey. After the original Evinrude died, I bought the SailPro. It dropped in nicely. Yes, the hatch doesn't close all the way; one day I'll raise the entire hatch. Also, the way the fuel line enters, at least on my CD25, the drop board won't fit without disconnecting the fuel. Not a big deal. I may bu...

Re: insurance for a CD25 ... any suggestions
Russel,
You mention worldwide coverage. So, is proof of insurance required to enter a foreign port, or just at a marina? Also, if the offshore insurance likely would not pay out, as you suggest, would a boat owner with such insurance still be held liable?

Re: Anchor RG-8X Coax prices
Just venting a bit. Defender price $0.89 per foot. The prices are quite varied, and ridiculous. A better way to buy is from a coax supplier. You can go to DXEngineering.com, for instance, and order RG-8x for $0.38 a foot. DXEngineering also has assembled cables. What I don't like about 8x, though i...

Re: Steel Bow Plate
I agree with sharkbait on OSPHO. I've used it before, and it works as stated. CAUTION is recommended while using inside;the fumes are not something you'll want to breath. Maybe use a fan to push air out of the cabin while coating the thingy.
All the best.

Re: Bilge Pump Wiring
Numerous lines of thought on that issue. Check valves in the line will form a restriction could catch debris and preclude any discharge. I prefer to go with the dual pump concept. A small pump in the bottom of the bilge will have a small discharge line and less back flow; this will handle normal dr...

Re: Bilge Pump Wiring
This is the first year I've seen any liquid at all in my bilge. It came from a cockpit leak that I didn't seal well. When I pumped out the water, a lot came back in from the hose draining back into the bilge. I'm wondering if there should be a one-way valve in the hose to prevent this from happening...

Re: Cajun Tiller Tamer - Tips for use?
I've tried several methods similar to what you are speaking of, mostly to self-steer while going forward to raise the main. In light winds or under power, it works fine, as you say. Under more wind, it doesn't because it isn't self-steering, but for holding a fixed course, for a short time, it seems...

Re: old jib or furled Jenny?
It's been seven years now that I've had Cassandra. Early in the first summer of sailing, the head pulled completely off the furled Genoa. I took it to a North Sails loft to be sewed. The fellow kindly said it wouldn't cost much and would be done soon. It took two months and cost $250. He said the sa...

Re: mounting a transducer for depth sounder
Huh. Toilet Wax. Great Tip. Thanks.
I molded a level, flat-topped mound of epoxy to the hull beneath the portable head on my 25, then epoxied the transducer on top. The previous owner built a nice wood box, filled it with oil, and screwed the transducer to the top.
Next time I'll try the wax.
