Re: Anchor light recommendation?
Snip. . .And back up to anything electrical is the old wonderful oil Yacht Lamp. The Weems and Plat Yacht Lamp is very similar to a Welsh Miner's Lamp. I have one that was made in Wales in the sixties. It is similar to my grandfather's, which he carried in the mines from the late Nineteenth Century...

Re: Life Line Gate between last Stanchion and Pushpit
Thanks Tim. Certainly makes sense. I suppose, likewise, it's a lot easier to manufacture parts rather than a whole stanchion plus base, given the different configurations.tjr818 wrote:Terry. If or when a stanchion gets bent. A seperate stanchion is easy to replace.

Re: Life Line Gate between last Stanchion and Pushpit
The stanchions on Cassandra are loose and will need attention soon. So, this thread, questions and potential solutions, is very interesting. A couple things I've wondered about: 1) why are the stanchions and bases two pieces? 2) what about welding the stanchions to the bases? I appreciate your thoug...

I've been happy with my Tohatsu SailPro. Haven't hooked up the charger yet, but will one day I suppose. Don't really use it much.
I've been getting non-ethanol gas at a local gas station (a new RaceTrac). It's about a buck more per gallon--$3.50 here in Georgia.
All the best. . .

I remember the usa, Japan controversy. I believed it, too. Thanks for setting the record straight, John.jepomer wrote:. . .Usa is in Japan. . .There have been false claims that products made in this town and exported to the US <snip>

Re: Sliding Companionway Hatch
Like the solution offered. Looked up star board (HDPE) and UHMW--as I'm clueless on new plastics. Found comment on a machinist forum on differences. "2 different products, HDPE finishes nicer and easier and holds shape and tolerances much better. I prefer it over UHMW. Not that uhmw is hard to ...

Re: Any CD25 owners ever hear of failure of engine mount
Well, now that you mention it. . . Yup! So I went to repower. I pulled the ancient--okay, 1976 Evinrude--out to replace with a Tohatsu SailPro, and found the teak mount a tad loose. I had one of my kids crawl into the cockpit lockers to loosen the nuts figuring I'd pull it out and do a nice sa...

Cassandra's original owner cut out a large access hole where the head sits. He used the plywood-box-filled-with-oil technique to hold the Ray Marine transducer. It didn't work when I bought the boat. I left the box, used epoxy to build a level area, then epoxied the Hummingbird transducer to it. Bef...

. Moving up to 27 ft or so often gets that extra space in the cabin, but the beam increases over 8.5 ft requiring oversized permits to trailer. FYI 8.5 ft is trailerable these days without a permit. I forget when it changed. Some states allow 9 ft without permit. I like my CD25, and she's been good...

Here's some links for self-steering (sheet to tiller): The first is a good write up with photos, while the second two are videos of the self-steering in action. Perhaps these will help. http://www.jsward.com/steering/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIUHiQ-PCPc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQNBlr...

Nice list of upgrades, Bob. I enjoyed reading through it. Thought I'd mention that on Cassandra (cd25) I REALLY want to get rid of the silly gate valves and install proper sea cocks. Maine Marine has a photo how-to that's thorough. Being frugal (Yes, it doesn't exactly go along well with sailing.) I...

I was going to try to modify the most forward bulkhead so as to allow more leg room. I get that that bulkhead provides strength for mast. Wondering if a cut out for legs. . . Might work, Tom. I gave some thought once to adding a hinged drop board and just sleep in the middle. But after climbing in ...

That's not enough for drinking, cooking and some basic hygiene? Ten gallons sound...
