I think I was around 5 or 6 when one of the doctors in the neighborhood took us out, all I remember, were the horse flies that tortured us all day, so there must not have been much wind, hard to believe in North Dakota. Then in 2000 Kim and I went on a scooner up in Camden,ME for a couple hours, tha...

Re: Eye Splice
The next thing I have to say won't be understood by many of the readers, but New Hampshire Pat will probably understand what I'm saying (unless vocabulary and slang has changed an awful lot in the last 55 years. Many years ago I used to be a broadback. Then one fateful day I cut out. I had more cre...

To far for me
Seahunt,
Yes that is to far for me to go and show a splice to you, it's to bad though, I know I could make it so you could understand and get it. I teach apprentices and some lineman how to do it well.
One day we'll cross wakes and get together.

Splicin' is easy
Seahunt, where are you? I could teach you how to do it in a matter of minutes. I learned back when I went to Lineman School when I was a kid. I had a good teacher and it is easy when you have a good teacher. The best diagram I've seem for the eye splice is in the Lineman's and Cableman's Handbook, I...

Re: What's in a name?
Hi All: This knot, which I, too, use is also known as a Lark's Head and also as a Girth Hitch. I prefer the more elegant (at least to me), Lark's Head. Fair Winds, Tony Jeske The Lark's Head is the way to go, I've only known it as the LH in the line trade, never a cow's hitch. It's what I use on Al...

Top vs. Front
Just a thing on the top loaders and front loaders. Top loaders agitate back and forth rubbing your garments against each other or themselves depending on size, prematurely wearing them out. Front loader tumble your garments with the water and soap, less wear. My proof is, my work clothes. I used to ...

Custom Yacht Service
When I purchased my boat it was kept in Irvington,VA at Custom Yacht Service by the previous owner. I wasn't able to sail her home late in the year so I kept her where she was used to being. John Friday is the contact and is a member here as well and understands the CD's and knows them as well. They...

Survey
Survey,survey,survey...........Ask questions in the area, talk to the boat yard and see who they recommend, call another boat yard an ask them questions about surveyors. Mine was at a cost of just under $400 and worth every nickel. The boat past with flying colors, I had five surveyors to pick from ...
