Engine-less Sailing
This post was inspired by a for sale ad here: http://www.capedory.org/board/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=34640 The vendor says: We built a Chinese sculling oar for close maneuvering, and have done several trips around the Puget Sound and Straits of Juan de Fuca only under sail power That reminded me of w...

One Way to Fix Companionway Hatch Guides
I believe that wear on the top of the teak companionway hatch guides was a common issue before CD fixed it. The problem was that the fiberglass hatch would wear out the top of the guides. The fix for later models was to insert a plastic channel in the grooves. My 1977 CD 27 did not have the fix, how...

Update on Removing Coaming Boards
Just to report that the winning technique was the manual impact driver, plus the biggest Phillips screwdriver I could find. The manual impact driver needed to be pre-loaded (twisted counterclockwise) before being struck. The big screwdriver has a hole in the handle, so I put another screwdriver thro...

Re: Removing Coaming Boards
I use the Milwaukee ipact driver. http://www.cpomilwaukee.com/milwaukee-m12-fuel-tools/milwaukee-m12-fuel-tools,default,sc.html Mine just chews a cone-shaped hole in the screw head ... I don't mean to be insulting but are you sure that you have the right bit? I have had good luck using an old fashi...

Removing Coaming Boards
I finally managed to remove the starboard coaming today, but I had to drill out one of the screws to do it. None of the screws on the port side want to budge though. I have been trying to learn how to use a manual impact driver to do this, but without any success so far. I am convinced that Cape Dor...

Solution for Worn-out Companionway hatch slides
Sorry no photos yet. Maybe calling it a "solution" could be a bit premature, but things are looking good. Like everyone else's, the grooves in my companionway hatch guides/slides wore out on top. This spring, I took the teak guides off, along with the sea hood. The grooves in the guides th...

Re: CD36 Dodger/Bimini for Sale
Just in case it helps:
I shipped the bows for a CD 27/28 dodger in a UPS standard carton intended for bicycles.
They had been cut in the middle (and sleeved) already, so I just drilled out the rivets.
The fabric folded into the same box quite easily.

Re: Use of CD 14 as tender/"dinghy"; stability
For those who are using or have used a CD 14 as a tender/"dinghy" what is the stability of a CD 14 for this purpose? In my situation I would be climbing into the CD 14 from a CD 25D. I am not 21 years old I wouldn't recommend it with your concerns. The hull is rounded, so it doesn't have ...

Re: Vendee globe
In my opinion these Vendee Globe boats this year are not properly prepared to meet the challenges. Six out in 12 days! That's ridiculous... and every time, it's the boat or the equipment that fails, not the skipper. Something is very wrong somewhere. Maybe some of the super-top skippers have lots m...

Re: Excellent Opportuity
Might turn out to be a good deal, but it might be just promotion by the broker. He claims that the reserve price is lower than the advertised price. That's no consolation because: -at the moment, this is the highest-priced CD 36 listed on Yachtworld ($64,000) -there's no guarantee that it will sell ...
