Re: Carter Brey on PHC tonight
I'm in contact with Carter virtually everyday. He's a very busy boy. Still sails quite a bit. He went from his CD25 Mary Ellen to a Sabre 28 Delphine and last year he jumped in with both feet and bought a Sabre 38 Atlantea. He was working on her yesterday and she should be launched pretty soon! By t...

Re: CD 26 Boot Stripe Redo
After 13 years of having a boot stripe that I never quite liked, I just got rid of it, when I saw many other boats without one. My boat (anyway) looked much sharper and cleaner without the bootstripe. It had the effect of raising the water line and with bottom paint there now slime buildup is minima...

Re: Clipper Round The World Race fatality
35-40 knot winds and not clipped in.
It just goes to show you that even "serious" sailors in equally serious races sometimes let down their guard and, unfortunately, wind up paying for it big time. I remember a few years back a similar thing happened on LI Sound.
A lesson for all of us.

Re: 1979 CD27 For Sale, Waukegan, Illinois
Mike, That time has come. Just like for me at the end of last season. Mine, was forced, when a boat broke from its moorings in a storm and blew down on my CD27 and heavily damaged her. I'm 71 and wasn't using her much anymore so I'm not looking for another. I did exactly what you did with halyards a...

Re: CD in Europe
First of all Arthur you don't need to apologize for your English. I (and many others here I'd bet) speak only one language. You speak at least two. So maybe I should apologize to you because you can't use your native language here. I looked on Yachtworld for CD 31-33. There are only 12 for sale and ...

Re: Message in a bottle reply
Nice story...but you should have told her to keep the money...seal up the bottle and throw it back in. Maybe in a year or two you'd get an email from Borneo (or, alas, from her neighbor!)

Or as has been said, "I'd like to die in my sleep like my grandfather; not screaming like the people in the back of his car." Neil That line is an absolute riot!!! (in a sick sort of a way!) It had me doubled up laughing!! Warren, now that I'm a 2x grandfather, it doesn't seem quite as fu...

Re: FOR SALE CAPE DORY 30C
Nope! I'm coming up on 71. Methinks my boat owning days are over since I lost my CD27.
Luckily, I've got many sailing friends who have taken "pity" on me and I'll be sailing with them a few times this season!!

Re: FOR SALE CAPE DORY 30C
For those looking for a really nice 30C, I can tell you Brian kept that boat is marvelous condition. I watched him strip the teak a few years back and redo it beautifully. By the way Brian, my CD27 Sine Qua Non was damaged "expensively" last autumn when a boat slipped its mooring in storm ...

Re: How much should I sell my 28 for?
Of course the old adage applies that your boat/car/house/business "is only worth what someone will pay for it." One important consideration is how anxious or time pressured are you to sell it? If you aren't in a hurry you can try pricing it a little higher. In the 20s for sure, and then se...

Re: Winter Storm
And if you are in a mooring field, try and get your neighbors to check their lines. I lost my boat this past autumn when a neighbors boat got loose from its moorings and blew down on my boat during a minor storm. The costs to fix her would have been more than what she was insured for.

Re: furler system for cd 27
I had a furlex for many years. Worked quite well although it should be "serviced" each off season. I did that more as a precaution than anything else.
Many good furler brands out there.

Re: First Rule of Sailing
I have the automatic inflatable PFD and harness. Have it for many years and, thankfully, never had to use it (the PFD part anyway.) After the second year I always "worried" about whether the thing would inflate if I did go overboard. So the question is: 1) how many of you "check"...
